What is a Wound or Drawn bead..............(The basics)
Wound: It is the process of how the bead was made. Wound beads are made by wraping or winding hot glass around a thin rolled copper mandrel. You can see the winding marks of the bead on both ends, (most of the time unless the bead was ground flat on both ends).
Drawn: This is another process of how the bead was made. Drawn beads are made by pulling hot hollow glass rods & cutting them at the desired length. The ends are usually flat.
Trailing/ trails/ trailed decorations:
This is the decoration you see on a bead. This is done with different colors of hot glass rods. The decoration is applied hot glass on top of the glass bead its self. Some trailed decorations are "Raised". This is when you can actually feel the raised "Trailed"glass decorations with your finger tips. Many beads have raised trailed decorations but the trailed glass is worn down smooth from age & use.
