  • This guide is writen for toy collectors that are interested in Matchbox Superfast models 1st issue (1969/70) - In the late 60s Mattel introduced the new Hot Wheels in the market with great success. The Redlines had low friction axles that gave speed to the new models. Hence Matchbox owner, Lesney, decided to "copy" Mattel idea of low friction axles for the new cars in 1969.
  • The result are the Matchbox Superfast. In the early days Lesney put the new wheels to the old regular wheels models resulting in the strange looking models that we now know as "Transitional Superfast" This models had also thin wheels and in the very begining also retained the colours of the regular wheels ancestors.

  • This prices are for Mint condition pieces (never played with) with complete well preserved boxes - There are more variations not listed here - This prices are from my records in auctions in North & South America - may be higher in Europe & Japan - Currency is US$ - Updated as 25/4/2008 - Boxes: 25% of model value but no less than $10 & no more than $60
  • We have several interesting conclusions about this cars: Matchbox Transitional Superfast were made in large quantities but in an extremely short period of time and also were intended to be played with like a toy, hence very few have survived in Mint condition up to this days. Also this toy cars have been under estimated, retaining a very low price for a long time. Now this cars are on demand and the result is that prices are sky rocketing and this scarce models are becoming truly hard to find. The rare colour Superfast are being valued more than 10 times if compared with the oldest regular wheels predecessor! and the new colours Superfast models are valued two or even 3 times more!... so keep the eye sharp and don´t miss the opportunity if this rare gems are in front of you - Good hunt and have fun!
  • Thank you for visiting my guides and good luck with the hobby!
