You’re witnessing history in the making today folks.  This is the first post of A Tentative Personal Finance Blog at www.dyphan.com..  Please excuse the ugliness of the site, while I try to figure out how to use WordPress and morph this general template into something that more matches my personality.

This post is also inspired by Problogger.net’s ‘Top 5′  Group Writing Project.  Here are the top 5 reasons why I started this blog:

Passion? It’s odd that for most of my life I’ve ran away from the idea of accumulating wealth and just basic money management. I grew up in a family where we were never cash poor and I just saw how unhappy we were. We were always well provided for but something was lacking. I think because of that I always avoided the topic, believing that it wasn’t essential. Well, I recently got married and my world’s been flipped upside down. My wife has always been good with her money and credit. I’m was the complete opposite. For our sake, but mostly hers, I want us to be financially sound and not to worry paycheck to paycheck. And because of that I’ve been devouring books, magazines, blogs, whatever I can find about the subject. That’s my main reason for starting this blog.

I want to make money blogging. Let’s be honest here. I’m intrigued at the idea that I can earn money while I share what I’ve learned about money. The ultimate dream will be to earn enough money, so that I can quit a 9 to 5 job and have the freedom to move on to the next adventure.

It makes me practice what I preach. If I’m going to try to write about personal finance, saving, and investing, I have to believe that the principles I expound are correct and clear in my head. There’s a certain level of accountability. Blogging’s going to keep concepts fresh in my head and steer me in the right direction to reach my long term goals.

I get to write everyday.  That’s another goal for this blog. I want to take on the daunting task of updating at least once per day. I know that may be a lot, but how else is this going to be a successful venture? It’s been ages since I’ve written every single day. It’s something that I use to relish. This lets me exercise a few hobbies (finance, writing, and computers). Hopefully the posts will have more quality rather than quantity.

Hopefully, I can help others. The older I get, the more I realize that there’s such a lack of teaching about money issues. It’s taboo to talk about your salary, as if your worth was linked to your net worth. I was never taught concrete lessons about earning, spending, saving, investing growing up and other than balancing checkbooks, it wasn’t taught in school either. The hope is that as I learn about money and how to effectively use it, it’ll help someone. Maybe they’ll be a post about credit card use, or mortgages, or investing that will seriously help someone. That’s the hope, that we’ll learn together.

That’s it for the first lengthy post.  Please leave comments and suggestions.  I’d really love to hear from you.
