Theodor Suess Geisel aka Dr. Seuss is beloved around the world for his wonderfully clever childrens books. What many folks may not know is that for more than 70 years he produced writings and illustrations in many genres.

He wrote or illustrated for advertising campaigns, cartoons, popular magazines, motion picture productions animated cartoons movies and features.

Dr Suess was the founder and president of Beginner Books. His impact on the world of childrens books ground breaking especially when it came to the grade school age readers.

Throughout his long career he wrote or helped to illustrate more than 75 books that have been reprinted and translated worldwide. Dr. Seuss's penchant for imaginative characters, and prolific career make Dr. Seuss's body of work an especially interesting and fun to collect and research.

I have been collecting Dr. Seuss books for 30+ years. And hands down the 2 best books on collecting Seuss works have only been published in recent years.  They are as follows:

1) First Editions of Dr. Seuss Books: A Guide to Identification by Helen and Marc Younger, Dan Hirsch.

This is a limited edition book. Only 1000 were printed and signed by the Authors. making the it destin to be a highly prized collectible on its own accord. Hirsch and the Youngers spent 7 years painstakingly researching all of Dr. Suess's 1st Edition Childrens Books filtering the small details that made them a 1st Edition.

Pricey even when 1st published in 2002, but if you collect Dr. Seuss 1st Edition Books there just is no other fully illustrated, more comprehensive. easy to use, reliable reference than this book.

2) The Dr. Seuss Catalog: An Annotated Guide to Works by Theodor Geisel in All Media, Writings about Him, and Appearances of Characters and Places in the Books, Stories, and Films by Richard H.F. Lindemann.

This 255 page bibliography provides a collectively exhaustive arrangement of chronological information, including descriptions of bindings, translations as they appear, and reissue information.

Dr Seuss subject matter in works of art, including its symbolism are linked to the more than 900 fictional names, places and terms to the works in which they appear.

This books is a steal at just 40.00 on the retail market.

For the Avid Dr. Seuss Collector these 2 Books will enhance your knowledge as well as validate any and all Dr. Seuss writings or illustrations you may come across in the worldwide arena.
