This is my personal list of the Top Minor League Baseball Prospects in 2009
1. DAVID PRICE LHP (A+) Tampa Bay Rays: He has all the tools you could want from a big league starter. I project him as an ace for at least the next 15 years!
2. MATT WIETERS C (A)Baltimore Orioles: The best hitting prospect in the minors almost hands down; projectably better than Mike Piazza.
3. MADISON BUMGARNER LHP (A)San Francisco Giants: Has done everything you could ask of such a young pitcher thus far, he & Tim Lincecum could be an unstoppable 1-2 knockout punch in about 2-3 years.
4. Neftali Feliz RHP (A)Texas Rangers: Acquired in the Mark Teixeira trade, he dominated in AA at the age of 20, and is still getting better; future ace without any doubt.
5. Travis Snider OF (A-)Toronto Blue Jays: He will make an immediate impact in 2009. It may take some time for him to adjust to big league pitching, but when he does 30-40 homerun power is likely; he will make many All-Star squads.
6. Cameron Maybin OF (A-) Florida Marlins: Acquired in the Miguel Cabrera trade with Detroit, he is slated to start 2009 as the leadoff man; quite a jump for a guy who's never played in AAA. Likely a future All-Star regular and near 5-tool player.
7. Rick Porcello RHP (A-) Detroit Tigers: He has 5 pitches, throws strikes, and has thus far lived up to the hype; dominating in A ball. He may still be 2-3 full seasons from the majors, but it will be worth the wait. Projects as a Brandon Webb type.
8. Logan Morrison 1B (A-) Florida Marlins: Potentially the best first base prospect in baseball. At 20, he is still young, but is putting everything togerher very quickly. I project as a .280 hitter with 30+ homerun power and likely in a devastating Marlins lineup if they stay together within 2-3 years. He does have competition at his position within the Marlins farm system, but I actually think that will help keep him focused.
9. Colby Rasmus OF (A-) St. Louis Cardinals: He has nothing left to prove in the minors, it's time to see if he can swim. I believe he may struggle a bit in 2009, but will learn quickly and potentially become a consistent All-Star for many years to come with his 5-tool power arsenal. Projects as a .300 hitter with 25-35 homerun power with 20+ stolen bases!
10. Lars Anderson 1B (A-) Boston Red Sox: His power ceiling may be higher than anyone presently in the minors. A prototypical power slugger, he has the tools, the size, and the work ethic to be dominant for a long time. Good plate discipline, makes pitchers make mistakes. Projects as a Justin Morneau type hitter, and it won't take long.
11. Elvis Andrus SS (A-) Texas Rangers
