I have been using eBay for a number of years and have bought a number of high end components here. I continue to be amazed by the high end ads that are obviously a rip-off. A few examples:
B&W 802D speakers ($11,00 list and only 2 years out) for $500-$1,000
Revel Salons ($19,000) for $1,000
...and so on.
All of these ads have two characteristics...the price seems too good to be true and there is a message saying to email the seller before you bid.
Every time I see one of these, I forward it to eBay, and always they disappear quickly. It is always a SCAM.
The message is simple, if something is scuh a good deal as to be unbelievable, it probably is. Used audio and video equipment typically sells for 50% off list after 2-4 years, anything dramatically below that is a scam. If you want to check it out, open a yahoo or gmail accunt and send the seller an email asking ro come look at the equipment locally or asking if local pick-up and cash ae acceptable. Generally you will get no reply or some dodgy answer, yet another indicator the sale is a scam.
When you see one of these, report it to the eBay staff so they can remove it ASAP.
