Out of four laserdisc players we purchased from ebay, three of them arrived damaged due to poor packing! We also got a VCR wrecked as well. What typically happens is that the packing isn't snug enough to keep the device from moving around in the box, and as it gets tossed and handled, it slides around and bangs against the sides, and gets cracked, dented, and suffers internal damages. This is happening even when we give specific instructions to the sellers on how to pack properly! The shippers will not pay off claims for these kinds of things, stating INADEQUATE PACKING as the reason. The sellers think the insurance is coverage no matter how poorly packed, and then the buyer is stuck in a limbo with the seller and shipper pointing to each other. What we have done to keep from getting stuck with broken items is to send the specific packing instructions, as usual, AND also offer additional money to insure purchase of good packing materials etc. We're glad to pay an extra $5 to get a better packed electronics device. Of course this isn't an assurance of good packing, but then, should the item arrive damaged due to bad packing, we send a note to the seller explaining what caused the damage, and 99% of the time, the seller will send a refund. Sometimes they have the item picked up and returned, and sometimes they tell us to keep it, but of course that is their choice. The saddest part of seeing a superb electronics item arrive damaged is the fact that this particular item is lost for good, and there isn't an endless supply of these vintage electronics to be had.
