Tips for eBayers

  • Arrange your work area so you have easy access to everything.
  • Pace yourself. Don’t attempt to list all your items at once or Blog all day long without a break. Take frequent breaks (every 30 minutes).  The pressure of the
chair against the back of your legs can cause blood pooling and increase the risk of clots.  Stand up and strech or walk around.  See my guide on Blogersize.
  • Make sure your computer screen is at the proper height, so that you don’t crane your neck to read the screen.
  • If you will be on the phone while listing wear a headset. Do not cradle the receiver between your shoulder and your ear.
  • Sit in the most neutral position you can: legs should be at a 90 degree angle to the floor. Arms should be at a 90 degree angle to the keyboard.
  • Use a chair without armrests (the rests are usually set at a height that contorts the body). Leaning on something, or resting a part of your body on something puts pressure on the body part or if you're short and can't sit with your back against the chair and touch the ground at the same time.
  • Allow your chair back to support your back.  Use a pillow if you need extra support.
  • Rest your feet flat on the ground, making sure there is a space cleared beneath your desk so you have plenty of legroom.
  • Use a document holder, rather than laying a document on the desk and craning your neck to read it.
  • Install an anti-glare screen on your computer monitor.
  • Don't stare at your computer screen for hours.  Your eyes will be as dry as sandpaper. The muscles you use to squint are the same ones used to blink. And most of us frequently squint at computer screens, consciously or not. When you're squinting, you're not blinking normally, so your eyes aren't getting the lubrication they need. This won't cause any long-lasting damage, but it's uncomfortable.
  • Keep a glass of water by your computer - keep it full and sip it thoughout the day.
