Choosing the right handbag is all about contrast.
Just like sunglasses are about contrast (check out our guide Sunglasses and face shapes) handbags work the same way.
Universal tip 1: If you are unsure about your body type, choose a purse that lies in the middle of your torso. This size is universally flattering for most women.
Universal tip 2: A handbag accentuates any part of the body that it hits.
Short women: Choose longer bags.
Short and round women: Choose a tall, rectangular tote with long straps, or a long sleek structured clutch.
Tall and thin. Choose short, plump bags. Hobo bags. Pouchy bags or half moon shaped bags.
Pear shaped women: Choose structured cigar box purse, or sleek rectangular bag.
Large busted women: Avoid close fitting handbags which rest under the arm. (These will further cram your bust and feel cramped) Instead choose a purse with long shoulder straps.
Petite women: If you are very petite avoid extremely large bags. Instead choose a long clutch or retangular tote that hits your leg and gives the appearence of elongation.
Slim waist: Choose a designer purse that has shoulder straps that allow the bottom of the bag to hit your waist.
6 feet tall: Avoid cute, miniture evening bags or mini handheld pouches that you will overwhelm with your stature.
If you want to accentuate cleavage: Pick a bag that has short straps that lie right under your armpit.
