So you're traveling by air...
Effective Tuesday, September 26, TSA Is Adjusting The Ban On Liquids, Aerosols And Gels:
"Travelers may now carry through security checkpoints travel-size toiletries (3 ounces or less) that fit comfortably in ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic, zip-top bag.
At the checkpoint travelers will be asked to remove the zip-top bag of liquids and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items." -- from tsa.gov
Airlines are tightening up on carry-on luggage restructions. Today's coach seats leave little space beneath them for most carry-ons. Over-the-seat storage areas are small and usually fill up early. If your carry-on is bulky you may want to have it tagged and stored beneath the plane. I prefer to pack smart and light. Put everything into one case, preferably with wheels. If all your items are mix and match, wrinkle resistant, and not bulky you can do it. Toiletries should be in multiple small bottles so they can be discarded as used. You'll need the room for everything you acquire on your trip! Keep your spare shoes in a large zip-lock so they don't mess up the rest of your clothing. Pack with tissue paper between the folds of your clothing to reduce wrinkling. Make sure that you have everything you need and nothing that isn't essential. Don't pack full-size blow dryers, curling irons, shavers, etc.. the room and back pain you save is worth the purchase of a good travel accessory. Remember that you will need either cordless accessories or dual voltage accessories with an adaptor when traveling abroad.
When selecting seat location remember that bulkhead seats and seats along the emergency exits allow extra leg room. Also seats directly in front of the emergency exit do not recline so you may be uncomfortable during long flights. Most airlines require that you purchase a ticket for small children, it isn't safe for them to travel on your lap since the seat belt isn't designed for two and your weight may crush a small child that is belted in with you. And in the event of an emergency you should not depend on your ability to hold any child. Many of today's planes offer telephone service at your seat. Calls may be paid for with major credit cards.
Remember when passing through airline security devices in the airport it is best not to allow film or floppy discs through the detector. It is better to be safe than sorry later.
