What is Tatouage? A high resolution dry rub transfer that can be applied to just about any hard surface.

Where can Tatouage be applied? Walls (textured or non-textured), wood, tile, glass, mirror, plastic, vinyl, lampshades, picture frames, scrapbooks, let your imagine flow...

Can I reuse Tatouage? Tatouage is a fine quality, high resolution of an artists work.  It is meant to permanently adhere to the surface for a hand painted look. It is not a stencil and cannot be reused. It's much like hiring a muralist at the fraction of the cost. Tip: Save any small leftover for scrapbooking or note cards.

Can I clean Tatouage? Yes, lightly with a damp sponge but treat it as if it really were hand painted. Do not scrub it or use harsh chemicals. If installing in a high traffic area sealing is recommended. Tip: Have one cloth that is used for cleaning your artwork.  This will eliminate anyone using an abrasive cleaner on that cloth.

How or when to seal Tatouage? You do not need to seal Tatouage unless it is in a high traffic area, gets lots of sunlight, or is exposed to moisture. If needed, seal with several coats of clear acrylic spray or liquid.  We prefer Krylon non yellowing acrylic spray and UV resistant for areas that get sunlight.  Areas that receive sunlight should be applied with multiple coats for added protection.  Use a small sponge applicator if using the acrylic liquid form.  We prefer to use liquid form inside homes for anyone with allergies. Tip: Whenever you use any type of spray application you should always wear a mask.

How to remove Tatouage? You have two options for removing Tatouage, sand or paint over the artwork.  If you have any type of gloss to your wall sanding may not be a good option as this will create a dull effect to your wall.  Don't worry about the Tatouage or lines showing up under your paint as Tatouage is so thin you cannot see the outline when painting over the area.  If you have applied to mirror or glass scrape off or use nail polish remover. Tip: Great option for renters!

Are there surfaces that are better for Tatouage application? Any surface that is non porous or very slick such as high gloss walls or glass may need a slight sanding over the area that the artwork will reside.  Another method that is not guarenteed and should be used with caution is to use a hair dryer on a low setting.  Before applying the product, go over the area with the hair dryer on a low setting.  You can then apply the Tatouage to the area.  By using the hair dryer method, this helps to heat up the area but this should only be used with caution as this is actual artwork you are dealing with and as such you could melt the product.  This is a rare occasion to use this method but I do like to share this with my clients.  Tip: Do not store your Tatouage in a car, garage, or an area that does not receive air condition.  Make sure your delivery will not be left out in the sun.

Can Tatouage be applied on top of Tatouage or other murals?  Yes, that is the beauty of this fabulous product.  When planning your mural think about what you want to see in the background or foreground.  Or maybe you already have Tatouage on your walls and want to add a few more items, well you can! Artists love to add Tatouage to thier murals to save on time and money for thier clients. Tip: Do you know someone that already has Tatouage and could add a few items?  Ask us about gift certificates.

What is the best preparation for applying Tatouage?

  1. Clean the surface with the following solution: 70% vinegar to 30% water.  This solution acts as a safe cleaner for the Tatouage to remove any oils from our skin, hair, dust, etc.  Even newly painted walls should recieve this cleaning method to remove any sanding debris from the wall. Create the mixture in a spray bottle, spray the surface, then clean with a clean dry cloth.  Let the area set or "cure" for 12 - 24 hours before applying the Tatouage.
  2. Be sure to keep the backing on the Tatouage until you are ready.  Tape the edges until you are ready to apply the product. The backing acts as a protective shield for the product.
  3. Use blue painters tape to tape up your design "with the backing still on" then step back to see if this is really where you want the design. For some designs you may want to use a level, pencil, or even take a picture for before and after shots. A second hand always helps for larger murals, plus it's fun as a ladies mural party.
  4. Once you area ready, then remove the backing and start rubbing with the tounge depressor that is supplied with your Tatouage.  The best bet is to start from one side and work your way in the opposite direction.  NEVER start in the middle and then go from side to side, this may create a bubble in your artwork.  But don't fret, as if you do get any bubbles just poke with a safety pin and then go over with the ball of your finger.  NEVER use your finger nail to go over the design as you may scratch your new artwork.
  5. Your best bet is to allow enough time to prepare and apply your new artwork.  Remember, it takes muralists weeks or months to do a mural but it will only take you a few hours.  Your family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors will think you spent a fortune plus you will receive the satisfaction of creating your very own mural.
  6. HAVE FUN and be sure to send us a picture!
