The purchasing of a mattress and foundation is a major decision for most people.  Statistics show that we spend more time in our beds than on any other piece of furniture we own.  Deciding on which mattress is the best for you does not always depend on the price of the bed.  By using the following tips, you will better be able to determine which mattress offers the best comfort and support for you.  Remember, to get better sleep for a better life!

  • Dedicate the time to do your  homework and get fully involved in the purchase decision.
  • Keep in mind that the mattress you are about to buy will last you  many years and that you'll spend more time on it than any other piece of furniture in your home.
  • Take your partner with you - you will want a bed that is equally comfortable for both of you.
  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and shoes you can easily slip off.
  • Lie on a variety of mattresses with different firmness levels and stay ther - don't be shy about rolling around into different sleeping positions.  Don't do what many people do - just sit on the edge of lie on your back in the middle of the bed for a few seconds.  If the salesperson is impatient or hurryingyou, shop somewhere else.
  • Be sure to get the whole story about the bed.  Examine the labeling, ask questions, review the warranty card, and look "under the hood", most stores have cut-a-ways that show the inside construction of the mattress.
  • Support.  A quaility mattress and foundation will gently support your body at all points and keep your spine in good alignment, in the same body position as good standing posture.  Select a mattress that supports your spine along its natural curve.  Otherwise, your muscles work all night and you can wake up feeling stif and sore.
  • Comfort.  Mattresses don't have to be hard as a board to be good for you.  Today, mattresses are built with luxurious new cushioning materials and surface treatments, creating a plusher feel.  While these mattresses may feel more plush, the core provides the needed support for your body.
  • Durability and Warranty.  Durability refers to how long support and comfort will continue.  Like all products, a mattress and foundation gradually wear out.  Eventually, you won't receive the same support and comfort as you did when the sleep set was new.  That is why you should reevaluate your sleep set.  Don't look to the warranty to tell you how long to keep your sleep set.  The warranty protects you against product defects and workmanship mistakes, not the gradual loss of comfort and support due to normal wear and tear.
  • Size.  Select a mattress that gives you enough room for easy , free movement, especially if you're sleeping with a partner, you should select a queen or king size.
  • Matching Sleep Sets.  Mattresses and foundations are engineered to work together.  Mismatching sets, putting a new mattress on an old foundation can impede comfort and reduce the useful life of the mattress along with voiding any manufacturer's warranty.
  • Value.  Buy quality products made with all new materials.  Shopping for the best value, not the lowest price, is a healthy investment in your quaility of life.
