My biggest time saving tip is to do my eBay listing like an assembly line production.
I work shift work and when I have free time to do my eBaying can sometimes be at 3am, at noon or at any other time of day or night on any given day. These are not really the top times to list. So what I do when I am ready to start listing is to use the time I have free in the most efficient way. I break up the tasks involved in listing auctions into stations. It may take a few days but when doing it in this way it is like putting a puzzle together, you get all of the end pieces in one pile, all the blue sky in another and all the green grass in yet another pile then you start putting it together and it makes the process so much easier to get to the completed picture.
Here is my normal plan of action on how I will list a box of widgets. Listing your items involves the following basic tasks:
- Decide on what product you want to list
- Research your Product including selling prices
- Photograph your product
- Write out your listing description
- Prepare your product - box it up for shipping
- List your product including shipping info.
#1-Decide on your product
I look at my inventory and pull out a box of widgets if possible I try to have them relate to each other in some ways when to get the chance of buyers making multiple purchases to save on combined shipping. Sometime the widgets are not related but cover multiple areas of interest therefore maybe getting a buyer to make an impulse purchase of an item they were not even thinking about looking.
#2-Research your Product
Now take for example the day I have free time for my Ebaying but it is at 3am. This is not the best time to take pictures of items but it is a great time to do research on the items I am selling. It is quiet work so I am not interrupting my husbands sleep. The pages load quicker as there are less users online. I check the Ebay active listings as well as the completed listings to see what price range my widgets are selling for. I also will "google" my widget to learn more information on it, as well as to check if it is selling in online stores/sites and at what price. I also check the "Want It Now" posts to see if there are buyers looking for it. If measurements such as size and weight of the item is needed I take them and add it to the notes. I do all the research for all the items at the same time using my computer notepad program to hold the information I have found and save it to a pending folder on my computer.
#3-Photograph your product
Any day I have with the afternoon free is a perfect time for picture taking. I set up my area and take pictures of all my widgets each one is displayed and photographed from various angles. Make use of the best light source you can including taking photo's outside in the sunlight, in a sun filled room, using photo light boxes and kits or just the flash of your camera - whatever you feel comfortable with and within you budget as long as it takes clear pictures of your widgets. Your pictures are one of the most important parts of your listing - take your time and take lots of pictures. You want a clear picture of your item and you want to show all the highlights and best features of it as well as all the low points and damages. You want your buyers to know exactly what they are purchasing from you . It is true a picture is can be worth a thousand words! I then take all my pictures and using my photo program I crop, watermark and prepare my widgets pictures. These are then saved in the same pending folder as the research notes on my computer.
#4-Write out your listing & #5-Prepare your product
The next free day I have I plan to combine my previous work together. I have my basic template made in Turbo Lister so all the shipping and terms of service information is already done for my listings. All I need now to do is fill in the blanks with the information on my widget. I place the widget in front of me and start my description using my notes and research. I decide on which pictures I want to use and upload them to my picture hosting website. At this time I also make sure I have the proper box or envelope that is needed to ship my widget. I then pack up widget and weigh the package so that I can fill out the shipping information. My listing is now ready to launch and the widget is safely packed so I move on to the next one until all my widgets are entered and stored. Now if the timing is right or if the items are being listed as store items not auction items, I will go ahead and upload the listings to Ebay at this time.
#6-List your product
With your saved listings in TurboLister completed you can decide when you want to upload them to be active listings on Ebay. It will only take a few minutes to upload them all and have them start and end when you want to. Even if it's a busy Sunday - all the hard and time consuming part of listing has been done earlier by you. If you do not use Turbo Lister or any other listing tool but use the (SYI) Sell Your Item form you will still have a similar experience as again the major time consuming photo taking and research has already been completed by you so your listing should go just as quick..
