There are many forms of holiday ownership to choose from and the aim of this guide is to help you choose the right type of holiday ownership or timeshare for you.

Let’s look at some of these options in brief

There are self contained multi destination clubs (MDC’s) that give priority to their own members within their own group of resorts as well as giving access externally to worldwide exchange options. This gives a much higher likelihood of attaining your desired booking within the resort group whilst also getting the same options on exchange as other ownerships. Example is the top selling Viva with its 40 resorts and a built in exchange to 2000 others Worldwide.

Next are RCI Points where you can own a fixed week or floating week and utilize it as points or simply own points with no weeks. You then choose How many points you wish to spend on whatever type of holiday you wish to book, subject to the weeks being put in the system and ‘first one to book’ gets what is available. Remember the greater the demand or better the resort the more people are trying to book it, especially school weeks, so have the right amount of points and be first requesting daily.

If you prefer to own the same time and same place every year and know your bargaining standpoint for exchange, these are called fixed weeks and have the advantage of being able to return there year on year. Another variant is floating time at a specific resort, where a season such as high or peak gets a you a return visit subject to which dates you book on a first come first served basis.These can then be exchanged with one of the major exchange networks on a week for week basis on a like for like basis in terms of quality and unit size and more importantly time of year or week number.

With qualifying weeks they can be converted into RCI points. Whichever method of ownership, once the weeks are banked into any exchange system they in effect become floating time, until a booking is made of course.
