Understanding some of the markings on your frog
Frogman is stamped on all of the frogs from 1999 to present.
Artist Proofs or "AP" is no more than 10% of the edition. They are extremely collectable as in most cases they only produce 100. Prior to Artist proofs, Tim may have marked his earlier frogs with the following.
F/C or Foundry Copy
A/C or Artist Copy
F/P or Foundry Proof
You may find EV engraved on your frog. This stands for Event Variation and is the standard for Show Frogs.
Show Frogs come in different colors and edition sizes. The smallest edition that I'm aware of was 25 while the largest was 400. It's up to the hosting gallery to determine the edition size.
Black Bellied Frog- Tim's early work had black underbellies and he use to sign them "Tim Cotterill" instead of Tim (I guess he's running short on time these days) Those are two characteristic attributes that have many collectors seeking the early frogs. Pictured below is a great example of a Black Bellied, Full Signature Race. Isn't she a beauty? ;O)
Platinum Gallery Frogs and I've also heard it called "Signature Series" are what only a few galleries have the privilage of selling when they reach high sales volume. These few galleries share the same frog although in the past they were issued their own frog.
BF = Bronze Frog: Tim started with BF-1 and has worked his way to the current number of BF-1?? Tim Skipped BF-13
BK=Bronze Koi 1-5
BG=Bronze Gecko 1-10
BFM=Bronze Frog Mini 1-8
COA= Certificate of Authenticity
Sold Out- This means the foundry has sold out, it doesn't mean it can't be found. Over the years they only become harder and harder to find.
Retired- Slower sellers that are retired gracefully. In many cases they quickly become desireable after this happens. Try to find Big Foot, the slow selling Owl that was retired that is now on the top of everyones list to own.
Just a few facts! Hope this is helpful!
