Magicians and magic fascinate many people of all ages.  A magician themed party is great for a young kid that aspires to be a magician.

Invitations

I offer Magic Hat Party Invitations, as seen below, in my store that can be personalized.  You can also have the kid make their own invitations.  Send out a couple weeks before party.  Make sure you give address and/or directions to the party, as well as phone number for parents to call to RSVP or if they get lost.

Food

Some think the decorations are most important, while others think the activities are the most important part of a kid’s party.  Although all are important, personally I think the food is most important.  You do not want to deal with a bunch of hungry kids.  Believe me they are the toughest.

Below is a suggested menu, but of course you should try to tailor it to the preferences to your child and the other children attending (if you know their preferences).

Main Dish: Magic Wands (These can be chicken or veggie alternative fingers or fish sticks.  Serve with dips such as ketchup, honey, and BBQ sauce.)

Side Dishes:
Side Magic Wands – These can be cheese sticks or pretzel rods dipped in chocolate and sprinkles.
Carrot Sticks – You need something to coax the bunny out of the hat.
Rabbit Shaped Finger Sandwiches:  Use a small bunny cookie cutter to cut peanut butter and jelly sandwiches into bunny shapes.
Bunny Chocolates and Magic Beans: Bunny shaped chocolates and jelly beans

Cake:  One can be ordered magic themed from most local grocery stores.  You can of course make one using you kid’s favorite cake mix.  Depending on your skills you can cut the cake into a top hat or bunny shape.  You can decorate the cake with sprinkles or pop rocks.  If you did not cut it into a bunny or hat shape, you can put mini top hats or bunny toys on the cake.  You can also draw a magic wand with frosting or put an actual wand (homemade or store bought) on top.

Drinks:  You can serve you kid’s favorite drink(s).  Add pop rocks just before serving to give it that magical touch.

Decorations

Have the kid(s) help make the decorations.  You can have them draw and cut out rabbits, top hats, wands, cards, and dice to be put up around the party area.  You can also find related coloring pages for them to color.  You can add streamers and balloons, too.

Table Centerpiece: A top hat with a stuffed bunt popping out makes a great centerpiece.  You can add magic trick supplies (cards, coins, dice) and a wand around it.

Welcome Sign:  The sign can be a simple Happy Birthday sign the party is for a birthday.  If it is not specifically a birthday party, it can simply say Magic Party.  Another alternative is “Welcome to (insert kid’s name) Magic World.”

Activities

Wand Craft:  Wands can be made by rolling up a piece of paper and gluing or taping it to stay rolled.  Provide crayons, glitter glue, sequins and/or any other craft supplies you have lying around.  The kids are now ready for some magic tricks.  Example homemade wands picture below.

Magic Tricks:  Teach the kids some magic tricks.  You can find magic trick kits at most toy stores.  Before the party learn some of the tricks.  It is especially great if you learn the tricks with your kid.  They will like teaching their friends or just showing off at the party.  Make sure you have enough supplies for everyone to participate (at least have enough for two people-the teacher and the learner-to use at one time).

Pin the Hat on the Magician: Draw a magician (without his hat) on a large piece of paper.  Make little hats and cut them out.  You can either make the hats on sticker paper or use tape to make them stick to the paper.  Make sure you make some indication of whose hat it whose attempt of putting it on the magician.  You can number them or put the attendees names on the hat pieces.

Magic Movie Marathon:  This works great if the party is also a sleepover.  You can also just show one movie that fits in with you time limit of the party.  Some possible movies include Nanny McPhee and the Harry Potter movies.
