Consider this an update to the original Britney is a Buy TSC guide. If you haven't run across any Britney items recently, shift your perspective to anything 1960s: Later Mid-Century Modern, now re-popular thanks to the delicious TV series, "Man Men"....
I am referring to hard plastic (often Danish), bright colors (orange, avocado green). and Pop & Op Art. Also Hippies, Space Age Moon Landing (I sold out of my original vintage Apollo 11 photographs), vintage Ingrid,Dansk, and, of course = metals: aluminum, enamel on copper (Matisse & Renoir jewelry), Courreges, Rabanne, Twiggy, etc. Add the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Motown - well you get the picture. Back to the Future. Many regular thrift store shoppers shun the 1960s colors and especially plastic, so you have an opportunity here to grab some retro pop culture. I would avoid buying vintage record albums (as noted in another of my guides), but the 1960-70s movie/TV related memorabilia items are pretty hot. Also original, vintage fabrics. I pretty much grew up in the 1960s, so I am my own best reference. I can tell a reproduction from across the room....Flops: Over-sold books - particularly The Corrections, later Harry Potters, The DaVinci Code and so on...If I had a nickel for every The Corrections I saw in a thrift store, I'd be set for life...It's a big book, and even with its book jacket, the supply way overshadows the demand.....Prop to: ARCs - in Denver, and elsewhere. Some of my greataest vintage clothing came from the ARCs in Denver. I've not seen one in Cali, but if you have one in your area, the selection was incredible and fairly marked.I've always bought the 1960s, so I've sold everything from original Go-Go boots to pop beads and and Nehru jackets (look it up, sweetie)....So, if you're Denver-bound (Dem convention or otherwise), consider ducking out for a moment and going thrifting. Denver's long been considered one of the best thrifting locations in the country (that's why I saw so many people from other countries in the 1990s), thrift store guides, in hand.....Due to the troubled economy, I'm starting to see many more shoppers at the thrifts; not only Pickers, but people looking through the clothing racks, trying on clothes in the middle of the room (no dressing rooms, you know)....It's getting harder to find parking at my favorite thrift stores....A Sign of the Times - not necessarily one you want to collect....For right now, stick to the sixties
