This guide is intended to help answer some questions you may have about investing in (or collecting) video games.

There are many factors to consider when thinking about investing in anything.  You have to take an educated look at the market place and do your best to determin what is driving demand.  I personally stay away from investing in video games that's demand is primarily driven by use.  For example I typically don't purchase playstation 2 or xbox games games right now b/c I find the value is declining over time.  Now eventually the value should start going up as a collectable, but who knows how long that will take.

What should I think about buying?  I always suggest starting with the system you loved since it is probably where your greatest knowledge/ interest is.  Then you need to determin what you are going to start off buying.  There are many options for vintage systems and games.  Some people only buy factory sealed items (be very leary of factory sealed items...there are a ton of fakes and reseals).  Many people only purchase boxed complete games and some just buy everything they can get there hands on.

I suggest considering the rarity of the items you are going to buy.  You can do this by running an ebay search for the item.  If there are 1000 items available it certainly is not very rare, but if there are only a few available then chances are the value will raise more in the long run.

A few suggestions to help you find out what items to look out for.  Do some research!  Check completed listings for the system and games you are looking for and sort by highest value first (for example type nes game and see what items sold for the most).  Just click advanced search under the regular search bux and click the box next to completed listings only.

Check your local online classified sites!  There are a ton of older systems and games that get sold often locally through classifieds, yard sales and flea markets.
