Here at Chirco in Tucson we see a lot of folks with early style Beetles 1967 and earlier.
These cars have been being sold for big money and are getting more and more valuable.
We firmly believe a person should do what makes them happiest with their car.
But our recommendation to our customers is to make sure that if you are going to customize these cars,
make sure they can be put back to stock. For example, a very popular look now a day is the lowered and narrowed beams. This brings the front end down and the narrowed beam allows for the turning radius. For a reasonable price you can pull out the stock beam and tie rods, buy a new beam, cut the new one up and shorten up other tie rods so you still have the OG ones. Seats are another modification that can devalue an early car. Save those early seats in the garage or have them re upholstered before you try and put in seats out of another car. One more tip, is to avoid cutting up the dash to install a modern stereo. Instead, create a new place to mount the stereo in the glove box or under the ashtray. This way if you ever decide to sell the car the dash is intact.
There are not too many cars today that you can buy for 5000 to 8000 that you can drive for 5 years and have so much fun with and turn around and sell for more than the original purchase price.
