Any Gamers out there ever try running/hosting a game server.

Want it to be a Clean Family Oriented Server where the entire family can enjoy themselves?

Well I Have hosted a Delta Force II Server and a Black hawk Down Server for years.

I have also managed a Voice server online so that me & the other gamers can speak to each other via voice while playing whatever game it is that we play.

Below is a list of things I did to encourage Fair/Clean style fun.

1 Always put in messages in my server for No Foul Language/Names

2 No Cheating or Glitching would be tolerated.

3 No Harrassing other players in my server.

4 These are the rules. Don't like them leave now please, They are not open to discussion.

When I hosted and ever had a problem with any of the players that joined the server I would simply ban them by their IP Addy. That way it cuts down on they're returning unless they were on dialup.

I also encouraged other non squad members to join our Venrtilo Voice server. The Client version is free.

Just the Dedicated Voice server cost $150 per year for upto 50 people at the same time.

But never chg'd anyone a fee, I did how ever solicit donations for cost's of Ventrilo and to run My Game server 24/7.

I have Road Runner Cable Internet at a 7.5 meg connection so I could host the game for aroung 30 players at the same time.

Server is run on a Dual Pentium 3 System with 1 1/2 gigs of ram memory and never had alot of lag.

Tried it with Windows 2000 Server to find out just how insecure that system is so I upgraded the server to Windows XP Pro Edition With the SP2 Updates from Microsoft. Woohoo System was never broken into after that. It was with server 2000 running though :o(

And if your the unfortuante person to be on dialup don't even consider hosting...Won't happen..Too much LAG.

DSL Is Basically the same thing,  Does not really have the Bandwidth to host a server.

Also to play the games a player should have at least a p-4 with 512 ram and a Video Card of at least 128 kram.

I personally run a ati radeon 9250 with 128 k memory in it and it lags at times. My new system has a pci express slot in it and runs the G-Force 6600le with 256k and that system rocks. But it will never host a server, just play the games on it.
