If you are considering purchaing some artwork from an artist on E-bay please read.  These are some quick tid-bits to keep in mind or consider:

General

  1. Read the description carefully prior to bidding on any auction.
  2. The major difference between FEATURED  and NON-FEATURED auctions is the price the seller has to pay to get the artwork seen.
  3. Not all auctions are FEATURED PLUS auctions.  That means you have to search some 30 pages back to see NON-FEATURED auctions ending.
  4. Factor in what it cost to have the painting shipped to you prior to bidding.
  5. Pay attention to the sellers feedback.
  6. If you see some artwork that appeals to your taste, ask any and all of the questions you have.  The seller should be happy to answer them.
  7. ALWAYS view the sellers other items up for auction as there may be a painting you like more.
  8. If you like the artwork of a particular artist, send them an email and let them know as they may offer discounts on from compliments.
  9. If you plan to make a purchase make sure the seller/artist provides insurance, it will be worth the extra fee to have insurance on the painting.
Stretched vs. Un-Stretched
  1. There are artist on E-bay who are now selling un-stretched ( This auction describes what un-stretched canvas means.) canvases, make sure you know what this means before placing a bid.
  2. If the artist sells un-stretched canvases see how you can go about getting it stretched on stretcher bars.  Typically your local frame shop can do it, depending on the size of the painting.
  3. The cost will vary depending each frame shop, a good example would be about $200.00 for a 36"x48"x1.5".
  4. Typically most artist sell these canvases already on stretcher bars and are ready to hang upon arrival.  One thing to be on the look out for is the depth of the canvas. This is how far the canvas extends out from the wall.  Some examples are .75", 1.5", 2.0".
  5. The canvases that are .75 are meant to be framed but still look great when the edges are painted black. However for even better look without framing is to purchase a canvas with 1.5" or 2.0" stretcher bars.

Good luck with bidding and I hope you will find a great peace of artwork from the many talented artist on E-bay to grace your walls.
