The Microsoft Xbox 360, first released on November 22nd 2005, is still very much in short supply. Retailers can't get enough of the popular video game system to satisfy demand and so many customers have run online to buy one. Here are a few tips if you are looking to buy your Xbox 360 on eBay:
1. Know what you are buying:
There are two versions of the Xbox 360 system, the Xbox 360 Core System and the Xbox 360 Premium Edition, and then there are several different iterations that include different game or accessory bundles. If you don't know the difference between these two systems, please see my Guide 'Xbox 360 Core or Premium'
2. Make sure the seller has the item.
Some sellers try to sell you a system they don't have yet. Although eBay takes down listings where the seller clearly does not have the system 'in-hand', double-check by reading the description and looking at the image in the listing. If the only picture the seller has is a stock photo, you should ask the seller why they haven't posted a picture that proves they have the system in-hand.
3. Know who you are buying from.
Do the standard eBay drill - check the seller's feedback rating and comments received from other buyers. Make sure the seller accepts PayPal (and DO NOT pay with Western Union or MoneyGram!). Make sure the seller can track and/or insure your shipment. You don't want to fool around with an unsavory seller for an expensive item like this.
4. Look for Bundles
It's tempting to buy the cheapest Xbox 360 available, but bundles are usually the more cost-effective way to go. Bundles will usually get you a better deal on a game (Xbox 360 games retail at $60), but you will also usually benefit from consolidated shipping. Also, make sure that you are not looking at only 'Featured Items' at the top of the page. Scroll down the page and look at non-featured listings that are close to ending and you'll probably find lower prices.
I hope that's helpful. Good luck with your Xbox 360 and happy eBaying!
