I sell lots and lots of plastic pop-up tubs of baby wipes and use lots and lots of baby wipes. They are a bit addictive...dusting, wiping off dirty tiny hands, cleaning the dash of your car in a bind...But, I do not have a recycling facility that recycles their 5# type of plastic! I feel guilty throwing away such a nicely made box though, and even recycling doesn't seem right when it still has some use, so the following is an ongoing list of things you can do with empty baby wipe pop-up boxes. Hope this helps!
1. sell on ebay - I have never made any money by selling the empty boxes on ebay. After shipping and fees I usually barely break-even, but it makes me feel better knowing someone is using them and they are not thrown away.
2. storage for buttons, screws, rock collections, craft items, seeds - they stack really well, and since they are waterproof and sturdy...little people can use them for their own collections.(My son had a -temporary- lady bug collection.)
3. Tissue storage- My box of kleenex always gets crushed in the car. Granted when you put tissue in them they fold all little, but its better the a yucky crushed box. (NOTE for Moms with little people in the back seat: Should this box find its way into the backseat, it is a little hard for them to open and create a tissue disaster with them as quickly!)
4. Toy - My toddler loves to pop the pop top and surprise himself with it. Fill it will scrap clothe or blocks and watch them try to fit things in the little hole or open the big top to get them out.
5. Pet food travel box - seals great, not too big, and the food will not get crushed and is less likely to spill than a ziplock bag...but you will need to wash in the dishwasher before using to be certain to keep the soapy baby wipe smell from making their food smell weird.
6. Crayons - awesome for storage.
7. Travel box of toys - Fill one with toys for the kids to play with while on a long trip in the backseat.
8. Upholster or paint them with pretty fabric and designs to sell - Now this is far too advanced for me, but I have seen some very cute ones for sale on ebay.
9. Have a boat? They are also quite waterproof. They are design to keep the wipes moist, so they really keep water out pretty well too. Some of mine have been left out in the rain (sand box project with the boys), and the "treasure" in them remained dry. Maybe they could be used for storage of boating items...fishing lures? They float too!
10. Items taken to the pool: Want to bring a book to the pool, but would rather not have it splashed while you soak? See if it will fit in there with napkins and pool snacks.
11. (added 1/05/08) Storing Christmas bows you don't want crushed during annual storage!
The tubs also stack compactly when empty if you open them and stack one inside the other. Save them for later and believe me, a new use will be discovered!
Have a great day!
