For those of you reading my profile, you will see that I am a woman. You will also read that I only review products that I own. So, you may be wondering why I am reviewing a pair of Men's running shoes. Okay. The truth is, I have big feet. I really only buy Men's runners as they fit me so much better than Women's size 11.5 (when I can even find them in that size...). So here it goes, this is my opinion on Adidas' Supernova Control Runners, for Men (and me!) -
MY USES
I run casually, and primarily use my running shoes for participation in a ball hockey league, ultimate frisbee league, and walking. I have owned earlier generations of Adidas Supernovas, and currently own these shoes as well as a pair of Nike Shox cross trainers (Men's as well).
FEATURES OF THE SUPERNOVA CONTROL RUNNERS
I find these Supernova Controls to be very light in weight, with lots of spring and great cushioning. Here are some features as found on http://www.londonmarathonstore.com/acatalog/Adidas-M-supernova-control-SS04LM.htm:
Supernova Control Upper:
-Open mesh nylon for best breathability and quick drying
360degree reflectivity for safety in low light conditions
Inlay:
-Ortholite anti-microbial moisture wicking sockliner
Midsole:
-3D TORSION for best midfoot integrity
-Midfoot 2nd density inserts to reduce overpronation
-Full forefoot adiPRENE+ maintains forefoot propulsion and efficiency
-adiPRENE provides protection from harmful impact forces
Outsole:
-Carbon rubber for durability
-EFR combines durability and cushioning
FIT AND PERFORMANCE BREAKDOWN
You can read the above specifications, but here's what it all means to me - the Supernova Control is very comfortable. For those accustomed to Adidas' products, the design and structure is typical. The lacing system is supportive and fits a variety of widths. I have a narrow foot, but there is no slipping or gaps in the fit. The toe area is sleek and not boxy, running feels good as there are no gaps in the space between foot and shoe. Arch supports are firm for the average foot but not overly structured. Those with high/low/specialized arch needs will likely be happier adding custom arch support, orthotics or choosing a shoe specialized to their arch support needs. Insoles are removable to accomodate inserts. RUNNING FEELS GREAT in these shoes. They add spring and bounce to your gait, and that's a good thing. That's my bottom line on fit and performance.
WEAR AND TEAR
I have owned these shoes for 4 months, and wear them about 4 times per week for vigourous running activities. They have shown no signs of sole breakdown, either in the midsole or bottom rubber. The inside of the shoes are still in great shape - no rubbing or holes from sock and liner friction.
STYLE
Adidas provides a nice looking shoe, with lots of reflectivity for night running. The combination mesh and man-made outer construction is attractive, with nice graphics near the midsole. My Supernova Controls are red, white, black and grey, but they are available in other colours.
BOTTOM LINE
Adidas quality. Competitively priced. Performance driven. Try them on, and take them for a test run. You will like the feel and results.
