Just about every experience sport card collector and dealer know the antics of PRO Grading. I have seen about 40 cards graded by them and all of them were trimmed. About two years ago I bought a card from a dealer (PRO graded). When I got it I found it was trimmed and not a very good job at that. This 1965 Mantle instead of being worth a few hundred dollars was worth almost nothing. I asked for a refund, but the fine print stated "No returns on graded card". note: if you see this in an auction - bad sign.
I did some of my own eBay/CSI research and found this dealer was not only selling PRO graded cards, but he was also buying vintage cards ungraded and generally in fair condition. I started a log of cards bought and cards sold. I even copied some of the photos of the cards. I remember he bought a 1959 Al Kaline, not what I would consider a big collector item. Three weeks later he had it on ebay, but now it was graded PRO-9. His price for the card was $3.50, he sold it as a mint condition card for $82.00. Not only were there many cards but I started to compare the photos of what he bought and what he sold. I noted several cards with print flaws, marks, back to front relationship and other areas that would make a DNA expert pay attention. These were the same cards. For one month I added he made $20,000 in gross profit. I also found out he had another buddy who was doing the same thing. When I complained to him about this action he changed his feedback to private and also his bidder list was changed to private also. This prevented me from doing more research. I also gave this information to eBay, but I guess they are not cops and figure buyer beware.
Guess what they are still selling on eBay.......find them, it isn't hard.
