This is how I produced the perfect tomatoes this summer: If you buy tomato plants, don't buy ones that look like they have not been watered properly or show any signs of yellow or browning leaves.(look carefully). If you buy diseased plants, they will not get better, I tried for two years, that just don't. Also, if you can find them, try growing at least one heirloom tomato during the summer. As the name implies, heirloom tomatoes are usually thought of as those from seeds that have been passed down for generations because of their quality fruit. They come in an amazing array of colors and flavors from sweet to sparkling to tangy. Cherokee Purple, for example, bears a deep mahogany fruit with green shoulders and a deep, earthy taste. These are my favorities. Also, some heirloom varities don't produce as heavily as hybrids, but the flavor more than makes up for it. I tried planting the perfect tomatoes for years, and I think I achieved that this summer. Hope you can too.
