If you are in the market for a new HDTV and don't know where to start then you've come to the right place. I will break it down for you and explain it in simle easy to understand language not in geek speak. There is many things to consider when buying a new HDTV. First you have to know how you will you use this TV for and where it will be placed. Always get the biggest size you can afford. However if you are using it say as a pc monitor and will be watching it only from a foot or two away from the screen then there is no need need to get a size bigger than 32". However if you are putting it the game room or living room you should get at least a 37" or 42". I say 42"-52" is the best range for most households. However the best deals are usually found from the 37"-47" range TVs. Anything 52" or over is still very expensive. Make sure the TV says built in tuner or else you will have to buy an external turner. Also make sure the TV set says it is fully 1080p not 720p or 1080i as this is not as high resoultion as 1080p which is the highest currently. Another thing to pay attention to is if the set is 120Hz in term of refresh rate instead of the slower 60Hz. This keeps fast moving from just becoming a blur on screen. Weight of the set is not too important unless you plan on moving it a lot or are going to hang it on a wall. What is most important if you are considering having it on the way is how thin the unit is. Right now the thinnest sets out there are about 1.5" thin whereas most sets are at least 3-4in thick and some even more. The newest innovation to come out recently is the LED screen sets. These don't use any flurescent lighting like the regular lcd sets so there are much thinner and lighter and use a lot less energy compare to the older LCD sets. The pictures of the LED sets are always hands down the best and are jawdropping to look at. However since it is the newest technology currently along with OLED sets most of these sets cost a few thousands and more. The prices of LED sets will come down eventually over the next few years but as or now it is out of reach for most consumers. I have seen and owned many brands of TV sets and in my opinion the best sets are made by Sharp, Sony, Samsung, LG. If you want to get the best deal and brand names and design doesn't matter as much as getting the most bang for your buck you should check out these TV brands, Vizio, Olevia, Westinghouse, Coby, Polaroid, Viore, Memorex, Emerson, Sanyo. You might be asking why I intentionally left out anything about plasmas. Well plasmas are being phased out and going extinct like the dinosaurs. If you can get a really good deal on one then get it otherwise I would save my money on LCD or LED or OLED TVs. Plamas are heavier and cost more to run in terms of energy costs.
