Our Fortuny style handmade silk lamps are made ancient techniques of the early 1900's.
Throughout each process of the making of these pieces, no heavy electical equipment is used but rather and exclusively the skill of experienced artisans.
The passages that are necessary in the making of these lamps can be divided into fours stages:
1. Raw silk is washed with specific procedures and coloured using natural colours.
2. The silk is then stretched over the metal frame, pulling it carefully and following the natural movement of the fibre.
This is the most difficult passage as only the hand of an expert master can carry it out.
without creating loops or points of tension and consequent collapsing.
3. The third step is the decoration, which is made free-hand by paintbrush with beautiful arabesque style motifs in golden colour paint., and then with patiently entailed cordings adorned with fine Murano glass beads , and join in the practical metal ring from which the lamp will be hang. .
4. Finally the tassel that completes the lamp is created, made out of a skein of soft, high quality cotton-silk fabric, adorned with two small glass beads and a large central glass blown bead made in Murano.
