I recently bought a lot of infant clothing. These clothes were described as "EUC" and "Very well cared for". When I recieved them in the mail and opened up the box I was appalled. These clothes were disgusting and grossly misrepresented. There were several stains and holes on every item I recieved. One item even had dried baby food caped to it! After recieving clothes in this condition I decided to write a guide on baby clothes etiquette.
So here it goes! There are certain steps to take when selling baby clothes. Which include sorting, inspecting, prepping, adding pictures and writing a description.
Sort:
Random lots usually don't sell as well or for as much as nicely sorted lots. Here are my rules for sorting.
*Baby clothes usually sell better in lots.
*First Sort them by size. Keep all items in the lot within 1-2 sizes of eaching other.
*Then sort by style or brand (If preferred)
Inspect:
It is important to know what imperfections your items have (if any). Always inspect each item carefully and decide which pieces are worth including. Things to look for are:
*Stains, rips, holes, odors, and loose strings.
*Stains are usually found along the neck line, the inside of the legs and above the back of the diaper.
Prep:
Next step is to prep the items, which would include:
*Washing the items
*Clipping any loose strings
*Possibly even ironing them
Pictures:
Now it is time to take some pictures to add to your auction. The most important thing to remember is that the pictures you provide is all poeple have to judge the items, the need to look appealing.
*Always use a nuetral colored, solid background so the item sticks out
*Do not just throw them in a sloppy pile, Lay them out nicely like they are on display
*Take multiple pictures. 1 picture should be of all the items included and there should be additional pictures focusing on just one or 2 outfits at a time. (Ebay charges more for multiple pictures but there are always sites that are free to join such as Auctiva. You can use their templates and add as many pictures as you would like for free!)
Description:
Lastly it is time to write a description. Many people keep the description very short and general but I prefer to write a short detailed description of each item. The more detail provided the less likely the buyer will feel the item was misrepresented.
*Think about describing the color, materials, washing instrucions...
*Always include the gender, size, brand, condition, the type of home the items come from (smoking? pets?), and be sure to note any imperfections even if they are minor.
Also don't forget to include "key words" in the title. Include gender, size, type and brands. This ensures that people can come across the item by using several different key terms. An example of a good title would be :
Large lot o-3 month baby girl items sleepers, Carter's, Gap EUC
With this title people can come across it by searching for many different key words. If they are searching by brand, size or gender they will come across this lot!
Hopefully this can be of use to someone out in the Ebay world! Just remember that honesty and good communication is key to being an excellent seller.
