Over the past few months, it seems that Ebay has become virtually infested with objects claiming to possess all manner of Djinns and Genies. I would first like to say that true Djinn embodied objects are extremely rare and scarce, and that if you were to come across a handful of Djinn infested objects in a lifetime, it would be extremely rare and special. Practitioners of genie magick and true genie binders are often out of reach of the general public. I have known of several, and they all lived in the mountainous regions near Morroco and India. These practitioners rarely communicate with the outside world, and live an ascetic life devoted to their studies. They do not readily share their techniques with the outside world, nor do they sell their djinn imbued objects. When true Djinn vessels are acquired, it is usually a result of being passed down from person to person over many years. These objects are almost always antique and of ethnic origin....usually Persian, Morrocan or Indian. When considering purchasing these types of items, do some research on the items themselves. Modern jewelry that claims to be carrying djinns cannot possibly be created by the old genie binders. I have been collecting paranormal items for three decades and have only seven authentic genie items in my collection.
The latest, and potentially up and coming genie-type figure popping up on Ebay is the Devata. It seems that some folks briefly read an overview of these sacred Hindu deities and decided that they were similar enough to genies to possibly gain a following. I am especially concerned by this, since Devatas are not "wish granters" and they cannot be bound to objects. Devatas are sacred archetypes in Sanatana Dharma (the traditional name for the Hindu religion). There are a myriad number of Devatas in Hinduism, and they are ascribed to everything from tree devatas to devatas devoted to planets, spheres and animals.
Devatas are ancient Vedic deities. They are regarded as aspects, forms or manifestations of God or Ishvara, the Cosmic Lord and Creator. They are the principles of Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion. The grace and blessings that the Devata bestows cannot be bought, traded or sold. TO BUY OR SELL A DEVATA IS THE EQUIVALENT OF BUYING OR SELLING "GOD". Because in Hinduism, Devatas are Gods and Goddesses. They represent God and the eternal truth. How can a god or goddess be bound specifically to a certain piece of jewelry or other object? Please do your research on Devatas before blindly accepting the tale that you read.
If you are interested in Devatas, it would make more sense to buy a temple item from India that has been blessed by a puja (ritual for specific purposes like health, blessings etc.). Yes, Devatas have spiritual energy, but their energy is steeped in centuries old traditions of devotion, worship and ritual. Devatas do not embed themselves specifically in jewelry and other objects. I am afraid that the sacred icon of the Devata will soon be equated with Djinns and genies. There are no similarities between the two.
If you want to tap into the essence of the Devata, do yourself a favor and follow the true path...not a path that someone made up using the name of the Devata. There are many sacred Hindu and Vedic objects that hold tremendous energy. When murtis (statues) of Hindu deities are carved, they are imbued with the subtle essence of that deity. Further, they are not magic tokens that grant wishes. They are powerful, sacred objects that respond to the sincerity and true devotion of their devotees. They are to be respected and honored, not put in the same class as Genies or other "haunted" items. I hope that this beautiful archetype of Vedic culture will not be degraded any further by falsely using its name.
Happy Haunting!
