Designer “Type” fragrances are every where! However, they are not new to the market place. I remember when I was younger one of my birthday gifts was “If you like Giorgio you’ll love Primo” fragrance that Walgreen’s and other pharmacies carried. Actually, they still carry those today.
Type or Dupe just means that it is a duplicate or recreation of the original scent. Typically they smell very close to the original if not identical. They have the same top, middle and base notes as the original creation. The reason they can smell so much like the original is because the original creator of the fragrance can only trademark the name they give that particular scent. They cannot trademark the scent itself, thus allowing for reproductions of the same scent. A very skilled perfumist can match the scent perfectly allowing everyone to afford the designer type fragrances.
There is really nothing wrong with purchasing a Designer Type fragrance to save yourself some of your hard earned money. No one will ever know you aren’t wearing the original! Usually, this doesn’t really affect the big manufacturers. The reason is because the person most likely wouldn’t have spent $50.00 and upwards for the name brand. Instead they would have just bought nothing at all. For a lot of people $50.00 is groceries for a week, so it isn’t easy to spend it on luxury items.
Some people consider Designer Types to be fakes. And while they aren’t fakes, there are some people out there who may try to deceive you. For these fragrances to be fakes in the true sense, it would mean that who ever is reselling the fragrance Type, is naming it the same as the original, possibly selling it in the original bottle after they’ve used up the original product. For example, if someone were to sell “CK One” but not include the word “Type” or “Dupe” along with the fragrance title, then this would be considered deceitful, unless of course they were actually selling the original fragrance by Calvin Klein. But if they were to sell the Designer Type as “CK One Type” you know you are getting something similar to the original. If you sold a Designer Type as an original then you are selling a fake.
