Ten Great Tricks for Beginning Magicians!- Part #1

Written by Justini- Online Magician-visit my eBay Store-Justini's Magic Shop

As an amateur magician and shop owner, I have been asked on numerous occasions the question " What are some great tricks for beginning magicians?"  That is somewhat of a loaded question, because "beginning magician" can mean different things to different people.  So, what I have done in this guide is to actually create two lists of tricks.  This first is a list of ten tricks that I feel are suitable for beginning magicians who are children, say in the 9 years old and up range.  Please use your own judgement on age suitability, you know your children better than I, but overall these are great for young budding conjurers.  These are mostly self working tricks that don't require an huge amount of practice or manual dexterity.

Ten Great Tricks Part #1 - Beginning Magic -No sleight of hand, self working tricks.

  1. Oddball- Two strings are passed thru the center of a bead enclosed in a clear plastic case.  With a tug on the strings they penetrate the bead and the case!
  2. Zip-Zip- Similar to Oddball.  A pair of dice are are threaded onto strings and tied around a magic wand. With a tug on the strings, the dice fall to the table penetrating the strings.
  3. Nickels to Dimes- 5 nickels mysteriously change to 5 dimes!
  4. Shrinking Nickels - 5 nickels shrink to 5 mini-nickels!
  5. Coin Vanish Box - A coin is placed in a small box, the drawer is closed, then re-opened-The coin has vanished!
  6. Coil and Ring- A small coil has a ring hopelessly intertwined, a spectator attempts to remove the ring and cannot, the magician removes it in seconds.
  7. Tree of Diamonds- Three cards are show, two face cards and a three of diamonds in the middle, the cards are turned over and the middle card removed to reveal a TREE of diamonds.  A no sleight of hand packet card trick.
  8. Vault Vision- A small gray case is shown with three coins.  The spectator places one coin in the case.  Magically the magician knows what coin has been placed in the case, every time.
  9. 21-Cent Trick- The magician shows 21 cents worth of change and places it into the fist.  A nickel is them removed.  What is left? 16 cents? No - nothing, the other coins have vanished.
  10. Crystal Cleaver - This is a new trick, but is really easy and fun to do.  The effect is that a small sword is show to visibly penetrate a solid ring.
