WHAT SERVICING A WATCH ENTAILS

What Do The Words FULLY SERVICED, SERVICED, RECENTLY SERVICED, SERVICED LAST WEEK, I SERVICED THE MOVEMENT, SERVICED MOVEMENT SUPPOSED to mean?.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SERVICE A WATCH

To service a watch means to disassemble the watch completely. From band and case to hands and dial, movement and any pushers, crowns stems. Inspect for wear and/or damaged parts, advise to any additional costs, professionally clean all movement parts, clean and light buff metal cases and bands when appropriate, reassemble the movement, oil and lube movement, clean dial, replace back seal and pusher/crown seals, [use silcon 7 in all pusher and stem tubes], reassemble/caseup the watch and time.

Q: What is the difference of FULL service Vs Service?
A: There is none. Technically speaking, the resealing of a watch with new gaskets/seals and the oiling/grease/silicon lubing of the movement while the case is open  (without complete disassembly) could be stated as to be a SERVICE, but it would not meet with the consistent rules of watchmakers as being SERVICED.

Q: What is the difference between FULLY SERVICED and SERVICED. ?
A: There should not be any. It would be CONFUSING. Yet, due to the fact we have lots of individuals performing their own work, they tend to use the wrong word thus the wrong definition.

Q: What is a STANDARD SERVICE?
A: BELOW

1. WATCH IN GOOD SHAPE.
A watch in good condition may only require a standard servicing. Disassembly and cleaning followed by lubrication and calibration.  As long as there are no rust damaged or broken parts, the turn around time is most often under 10 days.

2. WATCH IN NEED OF PARTS:
If your watch needs replacement parts such as a new crystal, crown, stem, and we have it in stock, the same turn around time will apply. If parts have to be ordered or found, you are advised of the estimated time and cost.

3. HIGH GRADE RESTORATION:
High end watches such as Rolex, Piaget, Patek are more expensive to restore & repair. Parts cost more and specialized tools are required. The cost to repair & restore high grade watches are determined by the brand and it's needs. "Complication" which is the definition of the complicated movements of many chronographs, automatics, day-date and calendar watches require additional bench time.

4. DIAL REFINISHING:
All watch dials can be restored. Each is priced according to it's complication and finish. Multi colored lettering means additional stamping applications. Stick-on verses pinned markers can mean additional time. Thus, each dial is processed according to it's complication.

5. AVERAGE PRICING FOR REPAIR AND RESTORATIONS BY A PROFESSIONAL:

Wristwatches, mid-century, self wind: $255
