Here's what we've found out about the fantastic 2006 Topps Chrome Football set, one of the best sets we've seen in years.

First off, most NFL and trading card experts agree that this year's draft class is among the best ever with impact players and starters throughout the draft. By week five, three rookie quarterbacks, Leinart, Gradkowski and Vince Young were already starting, with several more looking to be future starters (Tarvaris Jackson, Kellen Clemens, Jay Cutler.)

It's equally deep at the running back position with Reggie Bush, Laurence Maroney, Lendale White, Joseph Addai, Maurice Drew, Wali Lundy, DeAngelo Williams, Jerious Norwood and more looking to be important players.

And that's just those two positions. Don't forget A.J. Hawk, Vernon Davis, Greg Jennings, Santonio Holmes, Sinorice Moss, and a host of others. As I said, this draft is crazy deep.

Additionally, all of these guys can be had WITH AUTOGRAPHS in the 2006 Topps Chrome Football set.

But what makes those of us at RookieCards.com think the set is going to explode is the fact that the autographs seem to be super short printed.

To wit, there are four classes of rookies listed with the following insertion rates: Group A 1 in 875, Group B 1 in 450, Group C 1:310, Groip D 1 in 72.

For some reason, the marketing geniuses at Topps are too busy making Wacky Packages to release the actual populations of each of the classes. We've called to ask for the real number instead of a ratio but no one seems to know... or to want you to know.

But to make no mistake, these are short prints. Ebay has proven that.

Run a simple search on eBay for Topps Chrome Reggie Bush Auto and then compare it to SPX Reggie Bush auto. See what you find.

There are considerably less Topps Chrome Reggie Bush's (a Class A) versus the 2006 SPX Reggie Bush which is individually numbered to 399 with parallels as well.

A ballpark guess makes us think that the Class A chrome autos are printed at around 200-250. Currently, they trade at a fraction of what the SPX does... primarily because the public does not yet realize how short the Topps Chrome autos are.

Even the Class B's are pretty hard to find and when investor interest keys on one card they rise in value precipitously, further evidence that they are short printed. Laurenc Maroney for example, has tripled in price over the last two weeks (End of Sept through early October).

Same goes for Class D's like Jerious Norwood.

But there may be yet another factor that could make 2006 Topps Chrome Football autos EXPLODE in value.

Getting one in good condition is extremely difficult.

The cards are completely flawed, exhibiting surface scratches and printer marks on almost every one we've seen on eBay and off. Some cards are more affected than others (i.e. Norwood, Jennings) but most have some print/roller marks on the right side of the card. Take a look at this Cutler and then examine some of the other scans on ebay.

How many high grades can there ever be of these already short printed cards AND is this a recipe for huge hobby value increases?

Examine the factors: A) Tremendous Personnel, B) Short Printed beyond buyer's knowledge and expectations, and C) Highly Condition Sensitive.

The market will tell us if we're right, but we're pretty sure that once buyers realize what's going on, they will rise in value.
