With the Penguin craze among us, I'd like to share some ideas that can turn a child's preoccupation with penguins into a fun filled learning experience.

From March of the Penguins, all the way to Madagascar to the beat of Happy Feet, now Surf's Up is sure to make a big splash!!   It's continues to be Penguin Madness! 

Well dressed, well mannered and absolutely adorable, Penguins have taken flight, waddled into our world and are well loved by young and old alike.  Not only do they delightfully entertain us all, there is alot to learn about our penguin friends.  A penguins determination to survive, devotion to family and commitment to community, can be a geat learning experience for our children. 

To make your child aware of what a penguin father might experience, try this for fun: have them dress in all black and white, gather a large egg shaped object or ball, about the size of a softball, a long pillow and a belt or rope to hold up the pillow.  Place the pillow on his/her stomach leaving enough hanging so it touches the tops of your childs feet and secure it with the belt or rope.  Now balance the selected "egg" on top of thier feet, place the pillow on top of it and try walking without the "egg" rolling off.  Now have them close their eyes and try to imagine standing in the same spot for 65 days with icy temperatures and fierce storms - without any breakfast, lunch or dinner the entire time!  This will enlighten your child and provide just a little understanding of the process a Father Penguin experiences!
