Over the last few years I have taken a number of Cleps. I started by using my public library and my old high school books. I was able to do very well on the Clep exams using this method. The problem was that it was very time consuming. Thus I started researching review books.
I went onto amazon and purchased about 10 different books that had been highly recommended. Out of all the books and methods I tried, by far the REA books were the best. REA, Research & Education Association's series of review books are inexpensive and concise. Out of all the review books I had tried, they were the only ones that could be used alone and pass! All the information was packed in a very condensed notes chapter. Also, the practice exams were excellent.
Most of the books in this series offer a CD ROM with practice tests for a few bucks more. Buy it! This is the best preparation you'll find for the now computer based Clep Exams. I believe I purchased them for about $20 each with CDs.
I would recommend giving yourself a week or two, studying one of these books an hour per day and you should have no trouble passing the exam. It is by far the best method I have found to passing the Clep. I'm now on my 7th test having passed each one the first time.
Hope this helps and good luck on the test! ~Justin
