This is the first part of a series I decided to write around Christmastime of 2007. As some of you may know, some may not, at the first of the year, the entire staffs of ANACS and ICG pretty much did a flip flop and traded employees after James Taylor purchased ANACS and moved to Colorado. I have to say my first part of this series was delayed quite a bit due to the fact that the coins I had delivered to ANACS the first week of January 2008 have just arrived home after nearly 3 months. Quite a lengthy stay even for economy service. To be precise, my coins were received on January 14th by ANACS and delivered back to me on March 27th. I thought I would at least get a credit for a free grade of two as it is stated on their web site that they were giving free grades as a way of saying "sorry". Not sorry enough I guess, but I'm not here to bash anyone, I'll just state what  my results of the first  half of my study. I submitted  11 coins, 10 of which were previously in ANACS holders that I broke out in hopes of upgrades, one of these was a re-holder request. The first coin was a 1942 Lincoln One Cent Proof previously graded PF-61 RB, returned PF-62 RB, fair enough. Coin 2 1909 Lincoln VDB previously graded MS-64 RB, returned MS-60 Cleaned (so much for MS-65). Coin 3 1915-D Lincoln one cent, previous grade was MS-62, returned MS-60 details recolored.Coin 4 1967 Washington Quarter missing clad layer, previous grade MS-61 RB, returned MS-62 BRN. Coin 5 1926 Lincoln 1 cent, previous grade MS-64 Red, returned MS-64 Red. Biggest disappointment was coin 6 hoping for an MS-60 grade...1855 half cent previously graded AU-55, returned EF-45 ( I will attatch a picture of this one). Coin 7 1936 Buffalo 5 cent, previous grade was MS-62, returned AU-58 details environmental damage (will post pics as well). Coin 8 1910 Lincoln cent previous grade MS-63 Red, returned MS-60 details recolored. Coin 9 1918 Lincoln cent, previous grade MS-62 RB, returned MS-60 recolored. And finally coin ten was a 1916 Lincoln Cent previous grade MS-61 BRN, returned MS-63 BRN. I've attatched photos of the two biggest shockers to me, the first being the half cent which was purchased as MS-60 and has great details and in my opinion is a slider MS-60/AU-58 Coin. The Buffalo, although a common coin, has nice blue toning with hints of red and for the life of me, I can't see any damage. Part of me can't help thinking that after 2 months of not getting my coins back, I called several times inquiring on my order, were they tired of hearing from me? Are these retaliatory grades? I hope not. The following are 6 coins that I am sending in tomorrow, March 28, 2008 for a second part to this review. I will post results when the coins come back (in the fall?). The coins are listed with the current grade given by ANACS prior to January 2008. Coin one, 1933 D Lincoln cent MS-62 BRN, Coin two 1916-D Lincoln Cent MS-61 BRN, Coin three 1918-D Lincoln Cent with minor rim clip MS-61 BRN. Coin 4 1924 Lincoln Cent MS-63 BRN. Coin five 1920 Standing Liberty quarter AU-58. And finally coin six, a 1913 Type one Buffalo nickel MS-62. I plan on adding a few more coins to this submission tonight and will post to the review and list the grades and type sent. I would appreciate hearing from anyone else who has submitted coins to the new ANACS and let me know how your experience was. They say grading is subjective. On any given day, depending on too many variables beyond the submitters control, your coins could be Mint State 65 before lunch and MS-60 cleaned after lunch and a fight with the wife. It will be interesting to see how the second submission comes back. Thanks for reading and if you enjoyed this, please click the yes tab below. I hope to hear from some of you soon!
