Back in the day, mothers made dresses for their daughters out of discarded, but still pretty, pillowcases.  Today, although some pillowcase dresses are made from vintage pillowcases, most are constructed from new and contemporary fabrics.  They can be appliqued, embroidered, monogrammed, ruffled - you name it!

Why do I call these little dresses "the most versatile dress ever"?  Because a pillowcase grows with your child and can be worn for several years.  You can have your little baby wear her dress below her knees at a precious-looking tea length and then as she grows, you can adjust the ribbon ties and your little girl can wear her dress knee length or shorter.  As she grows into girlhood, the dress can become a top to pair with shorts or jeans.  You really get your money's worth out of one these dresses.

A pillowcase dress can be worn year round.  It looks cool and airy in the summer and when the weather turns cooler, pair it with a turtleneck and tights, leggings or pants for a great look!  These dresses look just as great for parties and special occasions as they do for play.

My daughter isn't little anymore, but if I had known about pillowcase dresses when she was a baby, she would have had a closet full of them!
