The Masters

As Jim Nantz alwasy says - its a tradition unlike any other.  Every year, around the second weekend in April, many of golf's greatest players gather at the Augusta National Golf club. It means spring is right around the corner and it is one of the toughest tickets in sports.  There are numerous Masters Tickets on eBay every year.

The Masters is one of four major championships in men's golf and the first to take place each year. Unlike the other major championships, the Masters is held every year at the same location, Augusta National Golf Club, a private golf club in Augusta, Georgia, USA.

The most famous symbol of the masters is the coveted Green Jacket.  Unlike other tournaments or contests that give out trophies, the master winner receives a Green Jacket. The green coat is actually the official coat worn by members of Augusta National while on the club grounds; each Masters winner becomes an honorary member of the club. Winners keep their jacket for the first year after their first victory, then return it to the club to wear during tournament week each following year.  At the end of the tournament, the Green Jacket is placed on the winner by the previous years champion.

In line with the other majors, winning the Masters gives a golfer several privileges which make his career much more secure, if he is not already one of the elite of the sport. Masters champions are automatically invited to play in the other three majors (the US Open, British Open and the PGA Championship) for the next five years, and earn a lifetime invitation to the Masters. They also receive membership on the PGA TOUR for the following five seasons and invitations to The Players Championship for five years.

The Masters was started by Clifford Roberts and Bobby Jones who designed Augusta National with legendary course architect Alister MacKenzie.  The Masters is usually linked with four of the greatest golfers ever

Bobby Jones

Though he played the game almost three quarters of a century ago, Bobby Jones will be forever woven into the very fabric of golf. The mere mention of his name immediately conjures up scenes that take their place among the most memorable in the history of the game: the rhythmic, perfectly balanced swing; the boyish face; the articulate, southern drawl; Augusta National; The Masters; the Grand Slam. Individually, his legacies left on the game are some of the most significant of all time. Together, they tell the wonderful story of one of the greatest the game of golf has ever seen.

Arnold Palmer

Arnold became known for Arnie's Army and the Charge.  At the 1960 Masters Tournament, Palmer gave a glimpse of things to come when he birdied the final two holes to nip Ken Venturi and win by a stroke. Palmer's come-from-behind win was a little misleading. He led after each round, posting a first-round 67 that put him six strokes ahead of Venturi.

Jack Nicklaus

Nicklaus's six wins at the Masters came in 1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1975 and 1986. His win tally is a record and he was also runner-up four times. In the 1970s he finished in the top ten every year. He appeared in the event 45 times and made the cut 37 times. In 1998, at the age of 58 he finished an impressive sixth.

Tiger Woods

Who can forget the chip in from 16 this year that vaulted him to a dramatic playoff win over Chris Dimarco.  It would be Wood's fourth green jacket.  As everyone knows, Tiger grew up studying golf and his game was built for Augusta National.  Many people think Tiger will end up with 10 Green Jackets before he is done.
