OK, I gotta say I was more than skeptical of this idea- A reverse camber snowboard? Like a wakeboard? how is the thing going to turn? Seemed very gimmicky... But after I kept hearing how it was winning contests and how everyone that rode it really seemed to like it - I decided what the hell- lets get one and ride it, After 4 days on it- I have to say- Lib is onto something here- The more I ride it the more I like it- I'm pulling it out of the rack more often than my Custom or Vapor, Its a very easy to ride board- feels basically just how they describe it in the ad.
Hardpack/Groomers- Loose- Skatey, it spins really quickly and easily and with the reverse camber the tips are up so its harder to catch an edge while the board is in motion, Very forgiving- Styley moves become easy because you arent worried about catching the edges when you screw it up, the magna-traction rips into the ice/hardpack like a steak knife, I really like how hard it is to catch an edge- Its not impossible but the board rides noticeably in-between the bindings, not out at the tip/tail
Powder- Now here is where the board makes sense- like a wakeboard or kiteboard the rocker makes the board want to come up and plane on top of the snow, I was on the 156 in a 14 inch day last week- I will say I would have liked just a touch more length- maybe the 159 But I wasnt struggling to get the board to float at all, It rides the tail so easily you don't get the rear leg burn anywhere close to what you get with a "normal" board in the deep
Bomber Runs/Carving- You wouldn t believe it to look at it- But the Banana Carves trenches like a mad beast- The board is already pre-flexed in a carving position, it just turns right over and goes- holding the line till you decide not to, Moguls are a pleasure since the board is always cambered to climb up them instead of dig into them, In the flats and straights I thought it might tend to drift- again not so, here it rides like any other board
Jumps- Landing is smooth and easy-, My fear was the tail would fold- not the case- plenty of pop from the end of the board
Conclusion- Lib is definately onto something here- I predict you'll see a lot more reverse camber boards being manufactured from other companies and more models than just the skate banana from lib, Demo one if you can- I think you'll find the same.
