The Jefferson War Nickels from WWII are one of the over looked items in coin collecting a lot of people do not know that the eleven nickels minted from 1942 thru 1945 were not made of 75% copper and 25% nickel like the prewar years and the years after the war up to1967. But the nickel was replaced because of the need of nickel for the war effort with silver 35%,the copper 56% was reduced and manganese 9% added. As the price of silver goes up so does these nickels.
Plus the mint mark on them is very large compared to other mint marks and was place on the reverse over the dome.Letter P(Philadelphia) was used for the first time for these war years on the nickel then not seen again on a nickel until 1980 and none of the war nickels were made without a mint mark. If you decide to collect a set of them try for uncirculated ones there is a surprising large amount of them that is uncirculate.
