99.9% of the time, if you are purchasing a designer handbag on ebay, its going to be fake. You need to ask yourself a question, why is this person selling their designer bag for half of what they bought it in real life especially if it is brand new. I dont understand it. Unless, maybe it is used and they are just tired of it....But keep on reading for even those people selling used designer bags.
My theory is - if you didnt buy it in the store yourself, its not going to be real - why risk it?
Have you ever looked at someone carrying a Louis bag on the street and just thought to yourself, thats not real? I do all the time. Maybe that sounds snobby, but they are the most fabricated bags - It is so sad that there are people out there buying the real thing, but its always going to be a questionable purchase, is it or isnt it?
Fake coach bags have become my biggest pet peeve. Why buy a fake coach bag, when you can go into the store and at least have the satisfaction of owning a $65 wristlet, that you know is real. I understand there are reasons to have fake bags, such as, you dont care or other people dont even know, if this is you, then make sure if you are purchasing a coach you arent spending more than $65 - anything over that is not smart ebaying.
I love my coach...but they are easy to duplicate, you smack some signature C's on there, you get Coach, ( you can also get Gucci and Chanel, a quick change up for each). Most knock off coach bags, will be the signature style with the C's on it, you mostly will not find the leather ones for sale as often.
How can you identify a fake coach? In just a few simples ways -
- If the C's look too fat, they are fake. Real coach C's always mimic the sizes of the other C's next to them. If the C's look squashed, almost like someone pinched it together or look streched as in too long - its going to be fake. The Coach C is just that, a C, but in bubble form
- Each Coach has a Serial coding on the inside of the bag ("No 2 Letters Number 2 Letters - 5 numbers" ex: "No GH4GJ - 12349" for larger bags )and ("No. 2 letters, number, 1 letter - 4 numbers" ex: "No FG1C - 1245 for smaller bags)
- The imprint of "Coach" in the leather should never be deep, its a mere surface mark - if it starts to look deep and bolded, you arent getting the real deal
- Coach should be on the hardware somewhere, in a not very visible spot, usually on a buckle on the side, or on a clasp somewhere. Just once.
- Zippers ALWAYS match the rest of the hardware, with matching color lining.
Chloe bags have also become a highly desired item on ebay, also something that is getting easier and better at duplicating -
- Paddington Bags - the lock must weight 2 lbs.
- The serial number must have a date, and number inside the pocket, made of leather...if you can tear back the leather, its fake. Also the leather is a little serated around the edges - this serial number should be found on the inside of the bag, inside of a pocket
- Pebbled leather is an easily duplicated trend for the chloe - be aware, even the most wonderful smelling bags that seem to be leather can be decieving
Some More Tips to Share:
- Take it to the store and ask before and after you purchase
- If the bag is in high demand, it is probably not being sold on ebay as a real thing - or if the price is an extreme low to what it would go for in stores - make sure to do your research
- If the item is on a waiting list, like many are - think about purchasing it, because how could average joe ebayer have 25 of them or even 1 of them - when A List Face of Designer handbag cant get one
- Dont believe sob stories!!!! about why they are selling the item for any reason. Everyone loves a designer purchase, if its in their possesion, it doesnt matter who you are or how you got it - even if their ex boyfriend gave it to them and they hate their ex with all passioon- why would they sell the item? You just got a $2,000 bag from the scumbag. OR if its the ex boyfriend is selling the item because his girlfriend dumped him - why does he not just return it? Why waste the time and money and potentially be getting less for it? (now if he is selling his girlfriends bag without her knowing....this may be another story)
- Keep in mind - even if the ebayer doesnt have a receipt, they can still return a designer purse, its pretty hard to get out of a store with one. And more likely than not, they have the item detailed on their credit card statement somewhere, its not every day someone walks into a store with $2,000 plus in cash waiting to throw down.
- If you dont recieve pictures that show the ebayer actually owning the exact product, do not purchase...have them send you a new updated picture with them holding the bag or doing something particular like throwing gang signs...not really - but you get the point
- It may be 100% true that they have the receipt for the type of bag being sold, but that receipt is not neccessarily for THAT bag - they may have walked to canal street, underground atalanta, somewhere, got the knock off, bought themself the real thing and then took the real receipt and attaches it to the fake.
- If the person has a LARGE SUPPLY of multiple designer bags, Any story they tell you trying to justify them being real (unless the stole a truckload of material from somewhere, but even then, most rare designer bags, only make so many of each) is going to be made up, so the chances of there even being a truck carrying a lot of bags is about zero
- If they start talking too much or not enough, these are both warning signs - - Too much, giving details of family and what is happening in their life, means they are trying to hide something. Too little, being shady, trying to hide something
- Research, Research, Research - online and the seller - see the above bullet point, see if they are selling 10 bags at the same time
- Just because their rating is high - doesnt mean that they are with a real item. They could be fantastic sellers and you want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but that doesnt make the bag real - even people with 1,000 perfect reviews, dont make them the carrier of the hottest bag in town
- Go to the store and buy the real thing. It is the most 100% gaurantee you can get.
Shop Smart! If you dont want to get ripped off - follow these guidelines - if you dont care, then do what you want. There is a harsh reality though and even if this can help one person make up their mind on whether or not they should bid on that bag - thats what im here for
