Even if you don't consider yourself a hardcore baby wearer, or are completely new to it you will find this Australian-made baby wrap attractive, comfortable and quite easy to use. Your baby will love it too! I own many different kinds of carriers, and it is my first choice, especially during activities that require use of my arms and hands. It doesn't hurt my back, keeps the baby out of harm's way, and I don't feel any need to support him further.
What is a Hug a Bub?
In Australia, where these wraps were conceived, "bub" is another word for baby. A Hug a Bub is essentially a very long piece of material that you wrap around you to make a pocket that "hugs your bub" securely and close to your body. Unlike many other baby carriers, this one is designed to keep your baby close in any number of different holds (back, front, side, etc.). Your bub feels your warmth and proximity and is generally relaxed and happy while you have complete use of both hands and arms. My baby almost always goes to sleep when held in this way. The Hug a Bub is made of lightweight and breathable cotton material and is very comfortable to wear.
Purchasing Hug a Bubs on eBay
There is at least one vendor that has a complete line of Hug a Bubs available at all times, often as a "Buy It Now." So, if you must have one immediately, and price is not a factor, you can go straight to an eBay store to make your purchase. However, I have found that you can sometimes do better on price if you are less picky about the color, and don't mind looking for a while. We looked for two months, and found an olive colored one used on eBay for a great price. Of course, we later went back and shopped for color! You can even find them new, on occasion, for at or near used prices, but be prepared to look around.
Selecting a Hug a Bub
One size truly does fit all, which means that mom and dad can use the same carrier. That's a real plus in my book. All of the Hug a Bubs are made of the same durable, comfortable cotton material, so you will not have to make a decision about material either.
You can choose your Hug a Bub BASED SOLELY ON COLOR. There are a TON of different colors on the market, and many of them look just as good on a man OR a woman. Black is my personal favorite, followed by Hazelnut with Nougat and then Berry with Hazelnut. I have found that these color combinations match just about every piece of clothing that I own. You can get a good feel for the various color combinations by visiting the manufacturer's website, or doing an image search on the Internet for "hug a bub."
Resale Value
While the Hug a Bub is very easy to use, there are a few tricks to handling a piece of material that is this LONG. A New Hug a Bub will come from the manufacturer with an instructional DVD that shows you exactly how to use it. I recommend that if you plan to buy a used Hug a Bub, to be certain that it comes with the instructional DVD. Most sellers do include it.
The resale market for these wraps is robust. You stand to recover a significant portion of your investment if you choose to re-sell your Hug a Bub when you are finished with it, and you may even get lucky and sell it for more than your original purchase price.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
I have no affiliation with this product, the company or any employee or friend of any employee of this company, its affiliates or distributors that I know of, and I stand to make no financial gain as a result of endorsing the product. I do own several hug a bubs, as well as other baby carriers and will probably sell them all on eBay when I am finished with them in several years. This guide is only my opinion, but I hope it helps you make a decision that works for you. Baby wearing is fun, and it really works, and I hope you choose to try it! Good luck.
