The first ever full size LAPD series six replicas were made in the Phillipines by retired San Francisco Police Lieutenant James Hurley in the mid 1970s.
He along with two California collectors financed and imported the badges. All had a solid back and the typical Phillipine jointed pin and tongue catch. All had the rank POLICEMAN and the number 714.
The second group of replicas were imported from Taiwan by an Orange County, California police equipment dealer and had the rank of POLICEMAN and the badge number 2724.
Since then hundreds of variations of LAPD have been made by movie prop houses, collectors and collector/dealers, varying from poor quality castings to top quality badges that few can differentiate from the real thing.
