The Ebay Avantage...

 A guide to Financial Independence

 Our Story....

Tired of working for someone else?

During my 25+ plus years in the retail business, I helped make my employer wealthy and ended up seeking welfare. My wife and I are both worked in the retail business all of our lives. A massive CVA stroke which left me a paraplegic at age 42 in 1985 provided to an opportunity to pursue and obtain a BSA in counseling psychology.  I remember my first day walking down the long sidewalk with a four pronged cane. Praying I asked the Lord for His help and Wow just 5 years later a college degree and just 47 years old. All kinds of options became possible, but I soon learned about the obstacles facing handicapped job seekers.  I had an impressive resume that created many unfruitful job interviews. Who wants to hire an handicapped person??  Eventually I was able to obtain a couple of part time entry level positions to supplement my disability social security.   I worked as a sustance abuse counselor for 6 years. One of my favorites was a substitute School teacher; a position I kept for 7 years until I could no longer handle the physical requirements. We were left with unpaid bills and the growing need to supplement our social security income. For several years I enjoyed garage sales buying and selling for profit. I utilized my retail background became known for our large garage sales.  It was a "high" to purchase something for 25 cents and sell it for $5.00. I was addicted.... As my experience increased, I learned that the antiques and collectibles brought more and faster  income.  By this time we are in our 60's and still struggling to live on Social Security. We took 3 sessions at the community college about Antiques and collectibles learning to identify the high dollars items to look for. We soon realized the key to profit was an outlet for our "finds". As we gradually became physically unable to hold garage sales we searched for alternative ways to supplement our meager income. I seriously considered opening a booth or an antique store only to realize the overhead expense was far too high, not wanting to accept the fact we were not physically able to do either. Surely there was a way we could supplement our income somewhere!!!!....

And the miracle of Ebay entered our lives.  We started selling our collectibles online. It has become the solution to our financial needs. We were basically computer illiterate when we started 3-4 years ago and I learned to type with one hand!!!!, Our business continues to grow, limited only by our age and the small house we live in. LOL They journey was not always pleasant, sometimes like riding a roller coater. LOL  Looking back  I remember the endless hours spent adapting to the new beta turbo lister that nearly caused  bankruptcy and a nervous breakdown, operating on bubble gum and a shoe string we ran to the bank to get $2 for postage money, beginning with an old used computer on dial up,  a  brand new computer meltdown, the expense of a better digital camera that is now outdated, 3 worn out printers.... Being angry at Paypal, which increased tremendously as I listened to their blasted  "please hold" junk over and over, when I could not access my money because I had a type O in the email address I had listed.. Well, to shorten this saga on a positive note as we ride off into the sunset, I'll end by saying We have grown in many ways, sometimes under duress, (LOL) but I  sincerely believe our business keeps us active mentally and physically young. At our age if you stop growing you become stagnate and die. Is Ebay perfect ? Certainly NOT!!!  Neither are we but we are learning together!!  Thank God for Ebay!!
