The Body Shop maintains 5 core values that are integral to their business model. They are vehemently opposed to animal testing of any kind.

Since the company was founded in 1976, Dame Anita Roddick has vowed to never test their products on animals. In 1990, The Body Shop took their stand against animal testing once step further by adopting a company policy to refuse to purchase any ingredient that has been tested or re-tested on an animal. By 1996, the company became the first retail establishment to sign the Corporate Standard of Compassion to Animals and continues to be a leader in cruelty-free products. Recently, The Body Shop won the "Proggy" award for best cruelty free cosmetics, given by PETA Europe.
