Having played all the Castlevania games I can say without hesitation that Castlevania Symphony Of The Night is the best Castlevania game ever made. For those reading this who have not played this you need to go right now and purchase one and start playing it. For the others who disagree this is just a review of the game. Any great game has an awesome soundtrack(which everyone should pick up), incredible game play and replay value. This game has that all times 10. In fact I can see a correlation with games that have the 'double-jump' feature and being great titles. Off the top of my head take a look at Monster In My Pocket on NES, Ghosts and Goblins on the PSP, these games were extremely fun.
Graphics for this game are outstanding and a true testament that 2D gaming can still be fun. There's just so much you can do in this game with special moves, equipment, magic etc... This game had such an impact that every Castlevania game that followed had to live up to the standards of SOTN. Every time a new Castlevania game came out I was hoping that it would be a little similar, the same or better! But nothing has come close, although if you take Castlevania Protrait of Ruin on the DS it does have the same elements which in theory would make it come close to SOTN.
Overall I give this game a 10/10 for fun, replay value and total gaming experience. If you haven't played it better pick up the pace and get one, if you have the memories of this game live on forever.
