I have always been interested in books of any sort. Now I am starting to run out of room and have found that other people are quite interested also. I like old books of a technical nature but realize that tastes vary widely.
When I started to sell books on eBay I really didn't know what I was doing or how the grading of books was done on a professional level.
Here is what I have done and it has worked well for me so far, even though I still consider myself a beginner. When you want to sell a book do just a little research first. Check the completed auctions for anything that may have been a match of your item.
Be as HONEST as possible. Write a book about your book. I usually flip through the pages of the book I want to sell and make a few notes about anything I find that might be of interest, i.e., dog eared p[ages, stains, tears or rips, missing pages or pictures.
Take a few pictures and describe the book as you see it. Describe the binding in detail, note worn ares, if the binding is tight, if the book will stay open at a certain page, etc.
Then I always offer to supply more pictures and any information thaey request if I can reasonably get it for them.
People are very cautious about shipping costs. I always use the calculated value and just add what it will cost me for packaging, like bubble wrap envelopes and anythinmg to make it safe to ship. Always offer insurance.
You will find more interest in your auctions when you supply the best service and information you can. I cannot stress enough how important it is to be as honest and detailed as possible. By following these few tips I am sure you will have a lot more fun and learn to appreciate the books more for yourself. I always try to do like my Ffather told me, "If a day goes by and you have learned nothing, it was wasted."
Have fun, learn a lot, and be surprised how many friends you will make in this wonderful community.
