This guide is more so for beginner artists and also for the people who would love to paint but think they cannot do it, or maybe just too scared to try.
Go buy some brushes, paints and canvas. I know you can create anything you set your mind to, even if you think you don't have the talent to do so. It's called mind over matter.
I know because I have done it. I always wanted to paint but I was too scared to try. Well one day I said to myself to heck with this, I want to see what I can do on canvas just for once!
I called my sister and asked her if she would lend me her brushes and paints. She took a tole painting class once, then she never used them anymore. She laughed at me when I said I wanted to try to paint a picture on canvas. She knew I had never picked up a brush in my life. Giggling out loud she agreed to lend me her set.
I was so excited and nervous when I first sat down and looked over all the pretty colors of acrylic paints. I always loved the great out doors and so I decided whatever It was I would create would include nature.
I opened and poured tiny amounts of each colored paint onto a piece of bristle board. See you make do with what you have. Keeping all the colors seperate I dipped the brush into one color, then another color, and yet a third color. So all three colors now lay on my brush.
I come to find out later that you get a nicer look by doing it that way instead of pre mixing paints together to get one color. So keep that in mind. I eventually covered the whole canvas in what looked to be a total mess!
I thought oh no how can this turn out to be anything? I sat there and looked at it and told myself to just relax and keep looking deep into the colors, lines, patterns and shadows and to my amazement I could see a picture forming. I realized the less you think about what you want to paint and just focus on letting your hand and mind work together, it will surely turn out to be an original.
Your very own artwork. Something you can be proud of. It might not be perfect in other peoples eyes but then not everything in life is perfect and the same for everyone right?
For never picking up a paint brush before the above picture was my first original. I live on an Island so of course we are surrounded in water, and I love the ocean.
As you can see the different shades of brown sand was created by dipping my brush into a dark brown paint, a butter cream, and black. You can create anything that interests you! Because if I can do it anyone can.
I believe if it is in your heart a love of something, then you can set it to canvas easily. Inspiration comes from within remember.
If you believe you will fail then you most likely will, but if you say to yourself let go, relax and just have fun painting, then I am sure you will find the artist inside of you. Ok, so now I am feeling thankful for what I accomplished so I decide to try another unique creation.
He might look familiar to some people but let's talk about the colors here. I lightly dabbed yellow and butter cream together as the background. Gave it a nice golden color didn't it? Again I let my mind and hand wander over the canvas with some beige and cream until I could see an image form from the shadows.
I cannot stress enough that the more relaxed you are the easier images will become viewable from your minds eye. You don't have to stop at just using canvas either, because I got a little plucky and decided to try painting on wood!
I don't know how well you can view this one but it is in the shape of a guitar. I love to play guitar and the picture is of a fishing boat, part of a cliff, sand and the water.
Now when you mix blue with white and butter cream, plus a little bit of black you can have such a pretty picture. Add a magnet to the back of your creation stick it to the fridge for everyone to see. Maybe you would even want to sell your original works. It is possible! How will you know if you don't first try? Remember I was once like you and I can tell you the more you paint the better you will get at it.
I called this one Dusk. That is something else you will have to decide on. A name for each original you make.
I wrote this article solely to inspire people who think negative about themselves and to try and help bring the artist out in you. It is inside of you whether you want to believe me or not. When you first paint and see a mess of colors on the canvas just keep looking at all the shadows and focus all your energy until you can see a picture forming.
Take it from there. You might first see a tree in the right corner. If so bring it into view for everyone to see. So what I am trying to say here is if your minds eye can see an image, could be anything at all. Use your hand and brush to make it visible to the art lovers.
Life is too short to not make the best of each and every day. Show off your new developed talent by painting what you love!
