I have been recieving many messages & emails for my help on how to sell & more importantly... HOW TO SELL CORRECTLY. Now while i do not work for eBay i do work on eBay & i am a self taught Powerseller & have become quite familiar with the "how to" when it comes to getting your items sold.
(i love to show off my eBay Powerseller award i recieved through the mail from eBay & with this guide you could be on your way to getting one for yourself)
THIS IS AN ALL AROUND GUIDE FOR SELLERS, NEW & OLD WHO JUST NEED SOME HELP IN SELLING THEIR ITEMS by "me".
If you are absolutely new to eBay & feel lost (and believe you me i totally understand how you feel thinking back to when i first got started & wished someone would help me but didn't) there are many tools ebay provides to help you sell your items in the "help" section; there you will get all the help you need.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE utilize ebay's "HELP" section located at the top of your eBay Page; it says all in little clickable boxes:
Buy-Sell-My eBay-Community-Help
here is a link to a great ebay help page...
First & Foremost: You should have a theme for your auctions or store. Something that tells potential buyers about you or your auctions or your eBay store. If you do not have a logo, a theme, of some sort i highly recommend that you get one; it allows everyone looking to know that you are a serious seller & are here to stay. It makes them feel comfortable in purchasing in knowing that you are not just some fly-by-night seller. If you are creative & know how to make your own please do & if not you can purchase them right here on eBay. There are some wonderful eBay sellers who are very talented in creating the absolute perfect banner or logo to suit your auctions or store.
Banners are custom made logos for your ebay store of auctions that can be added easily to the html section of your header. They are approx 310 x 90 megapixels & fit perfectly into the space ebay allows in the header for store logos.
Here is an example of my banner, my store's theme & logo...
I have a few to use for different auctions if i choose...
here is the one i use specifically in my blog...
SEARCH THE WORD "BANNER" OR "BANNERS" IN THE SEARCH ENGINE TO FIND A BANNER FOR JUST PERFECT YOU. I can also refer you to the girl who made mine you can message me for that information.
"CUSTOMIZE" your eBay Dress it up. You have the option to change your store or auction up a bit. You can change the colors of the pages, add pictures, add music, add an about me page & many more things you can do to spruce up your eBay. When you customize your eBay it shows the buyers that you care about what you are doing on eBay. I have had so many messages & emails about how much everyone enjoys my store; my buyers tell me how entertaining it was to look at my me page & more. It is very rewarding to know that all the hard work & time you put into your eBay is appreciated by your fellow ebayers.
ADD AN ABOUT me PAGE: Choosing to add an about "me" page is a wonderful option eBay gives sellers as well as buyers alike to show anyone looking a little bit about yourself, your auctions or your store. You can be very professional & just add your logo, your payment options, shipping terms, things along those lines -or- you can be as creative as you'd like adding pictures & graphics & even music along with your policies. Feel free to check mine out for some ideas if you'd like. However keep in mind there are rules to creating me page & first & foremost a BIG, BIG NO-NO is you can not add any outside links to your me page!
You can find everything you need to know on adding an about me page using the link below:
So now your eBay is all customized & ready to sell, almost.
It is very important to list your items properly & there are a few things you need to know:
ebay offers 4 options how to sell your items:
Online Auction - Allow bidding or offer a Buy it Now price.
Fixed price - Let buyers buy your item at a set price.
Store Inventory - Longer duration listings with limited exposure.
Ad Format - Post an ad to generate leads for items, services or real estate that you are selling.
CHOOSE WHICH IS BEST FOR YOU & WHAT YOU ARE SELLING FROM THE SELECTIONS ABOVE. THAT IS HOW YOU WILL SELL YUOR ITEM NOT WHERE IT WILL SHOW UP.
The very next step in the listing process is a very important one, Select Category. You must choose the proper category that your item will appear in. You can browse & hand select the categories or eBay offers to do it for you through the search categories engine.
Ex: If you are selling say Fisher Price Little People Toys... in the search category button you would type in all the words i just wrote, fisher price little people toys & ebay will search & choose the closest categories it has & a list of options will appear. You can choose from what ebay found for your item the category that best suits your item & this feature allows your item to be seen by anyone searching for that particular item.
You may not list any particular item in a category that it does not belong BUT you may list in a second category if you'd like more exposure for a small fee.
Please see this link for help & guidelines from eBay for categories...
The next step in the listing process is ADDING THE PERFECT TITLE. You must choose your title very carefully adding the correct keywords to the title so your item appears when a potential buyer is searching for that item. I wrote a full guide on keywords please read it for keywording details.
WHAT ALL NEW SELLERS MUST READ ABOUT KEYWORDS...
If you do not choose your title properly your item will not appear when searched for & therefor may not sell or sell as quickly or for as much money as it should. PLEASE understand the importance in this part of the listing process... it may be the difference between selling your item & not selling your item.
Item Description: Adding a proper description to your item is very, very important. Did you ever look for an item & the seller put little or no effort into the listing & you look & look for another of what may be the same item but that seller added more pictures or details & like that item better? It may have been the same item but one seller made it appeal to you more. You have to describe your item to the best of your ability to show the buyer that item as if it were siting right there in front of them. Shopping online can be a tricky thing & buyers like to be able to really see what they may purchase. Get creative with your descriptions; add graphics, lots of good picture ( all angles of that item for sale), add music, add borders & more. I know when i shop i love to see the effort sellers put into their auctions to sell me on their product.
You will need to add all the details you can think of for any item you are listing; the title in the details section again, be honest about the condition the item is in, how many of whatever it is you get, is it a "lot" of items & if so how many do you get, retail price, your price, little details that might make your item special, all measurements, colors, size, appeal to potential buyers what that item could be used for & more. Get creative & add details you would want to know if you were on the other end, the buyer looking to buy your item.
The rest of the details in the listing process are self explanatory & are a step-by-step process which you will easily figure out & after doing it a few times you will be a pro & do it easily & quickly.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT THING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SELLING:
Taking the Proper Pictures: If you do not own a good digital camera invest in one. As a seller you need to have the proper tools to work. You have to be able to provide good quality pictures for potential buyers to see exactly what they are getting. Now-a-days digital cameras have 5.2 megapixels & above & the quality of the pictures are impeccable; buyers can see your item so clearly & feel more comfortable making a already risky online purchase.
Take your pictures in a clean, well lit area. Always take a few pictures of any particular item which you will later choose from. Take pictures from different angles & views. If it is a clothes lot, take a picture of all the clothes together & then some seperate pieces, if it is a piece of china, take pictures of front & back & the manufacturer logo underneath to show buyers, if it is a toy take a picture of the front & back & show close ups, etc...
You have to take good pictures. It is like eye candy to buyers. It show buyers exactly what they are getting for their money.
here is an example of how clear your picture should look so buyers can see all the details...
show close ups of the item so the buyers can get a better look at what's inside...
HERE ARE JUST SOME TIDBITS I LEARNED ALONG THE WAY:
Sell your item at a fair price but never sell it for less than you paid for it unless you just want to get rid of that item.
If you are an experienced seller & know what to & how to list at 99 cent starting price do but i do not recommend that to new or inexperienced sellers.
You should not list an item for 99 cents & charge outrageous shippping costs to avoid ebay fees & make it up in shipping charges. Actually you are not allowed to do that & ebay is cracking down on sellers who do do that & if you ever see an item with that issue please report it. It is so unfair to good sellers like me for bad sellers to do that.
Look around first when looking to sell an item, see what other sellers are selling that item for & how they are listing it.
Browse eBay to see fresh ideas & items that are hot at that time.
Change it up; you may have repeat lookers & buyers looking for something new.
Be creative (everyone has an inner creative genius even if you don't know it).
Be Honest. Buyers really appreciate honest & good sellers. It results in good sales & return customers.
THE ABSOLUTE MOST IMPORTANT THING AS A SELLER I CAN TEACH YOU OR TELL YOU...
CUSTOMER SERVICE IS KEY.
You have to maintain a high level of customer service standards.
You have to answer any & all questions quickly buyers may have, you have to maintain a friendly tone, you have to be honest, you have to help if needed or if the customer can not decide between 2 or more items that are similiar or what size they may need, you have to quickly address any problems that may arise.
If you maintain a high level of customer service i guarantee you you will have repeat buyers. Buyers love sellers that offer great items but more importantly great, friendly customer service.
Utilize all that eBay offers you:
